When my inquisitive readers contemplate the illustration for this analysis, they can detect the presence of a fragile balance between three people: Joo Jaekyung, Kim Dan and Team Black. The latter is represented by the snake. I selected beads for each group, because they imply movement and change. Naturally, the physical therapist is caught in the middle. It is because since episode 7 we have been witnessing a subtle fight between the captain of Team Black and the other sportsmen. But why?
1. Sharing and jealousy
First, it is related to the champion’s jealousy.
(chapter 7) In the essay “Lucky loser and jinxed winner (full version)” , I detected how Kim Dan affected the champion’s relationship with his members. For the first time, Joo Jaekyung shared the shower room with Oh Daehyun and the other fighters.
(chapter 8) Secondly, in the analysis “Sharing is caring“, I elaborated how the champion had never had a family dinner, but thanks to the second main lead, Joo Jaekyung discovered home-made breakfasts and was encouraged to eat with the staff from Team Black. Note that till the birthday dinner in chapter 43, he never ate the same dishes than the coach and the fighters.
(chapter 43) As a conclusion, the physical therapist embodies “sharing” which is strongly connected to eating. Furthermore, the symbol for giving is the hand which fits Heesung’s description about Kim Dan: “Magic Touch”.
(chapter 31). It is important to recall that the artist came to discover the angel, for the latter offered his assistance unrequested.
(chapter 30) As a conclusion, Joo Jaekyung is taught how to share through the doctor. This means that at some point, the champion will realize that he has to share the main lead too, if he wants to become truly happy. How so?
“Jealousy in romance is like salt in food. A little can enhance the savor, but too much can spoil the pleasure and, under certain circumstances, can be life-threatening.”
Maya Angelou
Like the quote above is indicating it, jealousy is not simply a negative emotion. In fact, this feeling serves as a reminder for the jealous person. The latter should improve their relationship.
Although jealousy is a painful emotional experience, evolutionary psychologists regard it not as an emotion to be suppressed but as one to heed—as a signal or a wake-up call that a valued relationship is in danger and that steps need to be taken to regain the affection of a mate or friend. As a result, jealousy is seen as a necessary emotion, because it preserves social bonds and motivates people to engage in behaviors that maintain important relationships. Quoted from https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/basics/jealousy
Thus I deduce that on the one hand jealousy is strongly intertwined with modification and adjustment. The latter stands in opposition to routine and old habits. On the other hand, the condition for a positive change is that the person can identify this emotion and ponder on its causes and consequences. This signifies that the person has to be more rational and calm. Mingwa exposed it in chapter 35, when the athlete questioned his change of behavior and trick:
(chapter 35) This scene represents the first step of the athlete’s meditation. Interesting is that this self-reflection got interrupted by the text from the journalist. Consequently, the athlete’s old habits resurfaced. Thus the athlete began neglecting the doctor again. Additionally, identifying jealousy and its cause means that emotional intelligence is necessary. However, Joo Jaekyung possesses a low EI… yes, he really has the mind-set of a baby.
These are the signs of low Emotional Intelligence.
trouble understanding what causes certain feelings
frequent emotional outbursts or mood changes
difficulty asserting opinions or taking charge in a situation
little interest in finding new ways of solving problems
trouble accepting criticism, constructive or otherwise
difficulty expressing ideas clearly or getting a point across
a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time
a certain obliviousness to emotional cues from others
a tendency to fixate on mistakes instead of learning from them and moving on
pessimism and loss of motivation after setbacks Quoted from https://www.healthline.com/health/mental-health/low-emotional-intelligence?c=10167697281#signs
This list corresponds to the champion’s personality: his “jinx” exposes his pessimistic attitude. In these two panels, the beholder can view his poor emotional self-control
(chapter 7), self-centeredness, poor social skills
(chapter 43), low empathy, how he is blaming others. Thus I come to the conclusion that one of the doctor’s role is to encourage the celebrity to develop empathy, as the latter is necessary for a high EM. The other task is to let him experience mistakes and learn from them. Like mentioned in the previous essay, Joo Jaekyung is Mister Perfect and Kim Dan Mister Mistake. Through the mistakes, the athlete is experiencing the positive side of errors. This brings me naturally back to “sharing” which is also a synonym for compassion and love.
“Love is an activity, not a passive affect; it is a “standing in,” not a “falling for.” In the most general way, the active character of love can be described by stating that love is primarily giving, not receiving.”
― Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving
As you can see, jealousy is linked not only to love, but also to action and change. Therefore it is no coincidence that the champion felt the need to punch the sandbag, after Heesung expressed his desire to date Kim Dan.
(chapter 34) He was presented as a hindrance to the artist’s happiness.
(chapter 34)
2. The causes for the champion’s jealousy
But why is the champion so jealous and possessive of Kim Dan? It is related to his undetected low self-esteem and trust issues. Distrust is an important determinant in experiencing and expressing jealousy. This explicates why in the beginning of the story, the athlete was so rude to the doctor.
(chapter 7) He didn’t know Kim Dan at all. Thus he utilized the contract as reminder
(chapter 8), as he felt that he had no other tool to keep his partner by his side. In addition, in order to control his jealousy, he always employed the same method: SEX!!
(chapter 34) Consequently, as long as Joo Jaekyung could not control his possessiveness and jealousy, he was shooting himself in the foot. Which corresponds to the metaphor with too much salt in the food. Mingwa gave us many examples for this situation. When the champion became jealous in episode 7, he forced the physical therapist to have sex with him. Thus his karma was to be perceived as a man obsessed with sex. Then, in episode 9, he provoked Kim Dan with the drink.
(chapter 9) It was, as if he wanted to steal the show from the physical therapist. His punishment was to take care of the physical therapist, but the latter never witnessed his caring side due to his high intoxication. When he challenged the comedian
(chapter 34), he deceived the doctor, imposed his will on Kim Dan out of fear that the latter might not choose him. The result was that the doctor came to view himself as a tool for the athlete’s jinx again. Then at the hotel, he poured the coca cola on the physical therapist’s head
(chapter 37) giving the impression that he was resenting Kim Dan the most. However, in reality, he was jealous of Oh Daehyun and Potato, for the latter were having a good time with his lover, while he was left alone in his bedroom. While they were happily laughing with Kim Dan, he was totally excluded.
(chapter 37) He was envious that they were the source of Kim Dan’s happiness, whereas he was not. Finally, when the athlete confronted them, the doctor sided with them.
(chapter 37) In other words, sharing happiness is triggering his jealousy.
3. Jealousy and happiness
Manhwaphiles can observe this phenomenon in episode 7 and 22. Note that the boxers were all in a good mood, when the doctor was treating Kim Changmin.
(chapter 7) The same happened, when Oh Daehyun expressed his envy at dinner:
(chapter 22) Each time, the star put an end to this happy mood. In the break room, Joo Jaekyung threatened them, because he considered their suggestions as a threat. Their comments imply that he would have to share Kim Dan, if they came to the penthouse. It looks like the celebrity is in reality jealous of happy people. It was, as if he was going after “happiness and rest”. Therefore it is not surprising that he accepted the next fight.
(chapter 41) He looks grumpy again. It shows that he is not truly enjoying his recent success. After the birthday party at the restaurant, the champion felt jealous again.
(chapter 43) His gaze was betraying him. Though he was the star of the evening, the fighters didn’t invite him to the second round. Yet, he didn’t mind, until he heard them asking the physical therapist. But contrary to the past, episode 7 and 37, Joo Jaekyung acted more gently.
(chapter 43) He didn’t vent his anger on the doctor, as he embraced him gently. Why? In my opinion, there exist different causes. One reason is the phone call and the long conversation. Another cause for this change of behavior is that the time spent with Kim Dan at his penthouse. Through the breakfasts and their days-off, the celebrity got to know Kim Dan better. The champion’s jokes
(chapter 27) and smiles are an evidence that the protagonist is feeling more and more comfortable around Kim Dan.
(chapter 41) Yet, he was still crossing his arms while talking to the physical therapist. This shows that he has not completely lowered his guard yet. Finally, Manhwaworms shouldn’t overlook the doctor’s drunken confession accompanied with kisses and embraces.
(chapter 39) Consequently, I could observe that the athlete is gradually capable to manage his jealousy, the longer he is living with the main lead. Simultaneously, I believe that the recent transformation of the physical therapist (exhaustion, skipping dinners) incited Joo Jaekyung to observe his lover and meditate.
(chapter 43) However, I would like to outline that in this scene, he didn’t feel jealous, as Kim Dan was excluded. Hence he had no reason to claim the doctor as his. As you can see, the star’s jealousy was the trigger to change his behavior in front of the members. Thus I come to the deduction that we were witnessing the positive aspect of “jealousy”. He was not questioning the doctor’s integrity and trust. Therefore it is no coincidence that contrary to episode 7, 9, 22 and 37, he didn’t look grumpy, when he stated that Doc Dan is coming with him.
(chapter 43) He had almost a smile. Why? His words were revealing his intentions. Here, he wanted to make the members from Team Black jealous of him. Let’s not forget that his statement implied that he would have a good time with the physical therapist. However, his attempt failed, for the members expressed their surprise and happiness.
(chapter 43) It was seen as a miracle that Joo Jaekyung was showing such a care for someone. Kim Changmin, as a representative of Team Black, was not at all envious, because they are used to sharing (dinner, dormitories, etc). The boxer felt that he just witnessed a wonder. It is important, because through this scene, we have an explanation for their passivity in the States. They thought that the athlete didn’t really care for Kim Dan.
(chapter 40) The champion has always hidden his care for Kim Dan in front of Park Namwook and the others. Don’t forget that the athlete was even particularly rude towards the main figure before the match.
(chapter 37) I could also include the scene with the new jacket.
(chapter 36) When the sportsmen were all fighting against each other to give their new cloth to Kim Dan, the champion intervened by throwing his jacket to Kim Dan. He was not smiling at all. In fact, he gave the impression that Kim Dan was causing trouble.
(chapter 36) At no moment, Oh Daehyun and the others could detect the main lead’s jealousy. That’s how it dawned on me why Kim Dan was not informed about the surprise birthday party.
(chapter 43) He was as astonished as Joo Jaekyung. I deduce that they desired to protect him, in case the celebrity would react so negatively.
(chapter 43) Since the athlete had been so impolite and rude towards the doctor in front of Oh Daehyun and the other members on so many occasions (7, 9,
11, 36, 37), they imagined that Joo Jaekyung was treating him the same way than them: if he was not rough, then he was indifferent.
(chapter 22) When he announced to the staff that Kim Dan was cooking for him, his facial expression and words are indicating that this is no big deal! He was not smiling and voicing his admiration for doc Dan. He created the illusion that the physical therapist was just living at the penthouse for the celebrity’s comfort. It was to do his job and nothing more. But this was only partially true. That’s the reason why I come to the assumption that this miracle in episode 43 will change the dynamics at the gym. Kim Changmin, Oh Daehyun and the others know now that the celebrity not only cares for the doctor, but also has become his friend. Thus they could seek Kim Dan’s closeness in order to get his advices and assistance.
On the other hand, the fighter was still ordering his lover.
(chapter 43) Note that he had intervened at the same time than the doctor’s.
(chapter 43) So he never took the doctor’s choice into consideration. Although Joo Jaekyung is no longer dragging the doctor like in the beginning of the story, he is not truly respecting Kim Dan’s decisions. But how did this rivalry between Joo Jaekyung and his team start?
4- The origins of the rivalry
Here, I won’t focus on the champion’s feelings, rather on the way the doctor entered the gym. His contract diverges from the other members’.
(chapter 7) He occupies a special position, for he is only working for the alpha as doctor. But note that doc Dan crossed the line, the moment he started taking care of Kim Changmin’s problematic shoulder.
(chapter 7) By treating him, he acted, as if he was the physical therapist of Team Black. Secondly, observe how he got introduced to Team Black.
(chapter 7) Park Namwook is employing the expression “joining us”, he is insinuating that he is a member from Team Black. Therefore it is not surprising that the doctor decided to share his talent and give a treatment to Kim Changmin and others.
(chapter 7) This short introduction could only encourage him to treat the other fighters too. As you can see, though the doctor has a contract, his duties and position among Team Black were not clear. Moreover, the moment the boxers discovered that the main lead had his own physical therapist, they asked if they could have one too.
(chapter 7) Thus I deduce that Kim Dan still needs to find his own place at the gym. This can only generate tension. Moreover, it dawned on me, neither the champion nor coach Jeon Yosep nor Park Namwook recognized the consequences of his arrival at the gym.
(chapter 7) First, they made the mistake not to bring Kim Dan to Busan.
(chapter 36) After that event, they learned their lesson. However, note that the champion refused that the physical therapist would follow Oh Daehyun and the others to their fight.
(chapter 23) On the one hand, he was reminding his companion that he was only working for him, on the other hand, the uniform and the treatment from the members were giving the impression that he was also part of Team Black.
(chapter 23) That’s how he discovered the ritual with high five!! This is something he could share with his lover! By using this gesture, they would not only become closer, but the gap between the fighters and Joo Jaekyung would be reduced. On the other hand, by hindering Kim Dan to follow the group, Joo Jaekyung was hindering the main lead to do his job. This shows as well that they are slowly developing a new routine, but it is not fully deployed. The doctor is bringing the real changes due to his special but unclear position.
Besides, as a hyung and physical therapist, he should be part of the management, hence he should get the right to voice his opinion about a match. Yet, in chapter 36, he was not invited to the meeting
(chapter 36). Moreover, by mopping the floor, he acted like an errand boy, as if he was the lowest member. I doubt that he got consulted for the next fight too.
(chapter 41) On the other hand, Kim Dan is a freelancer, hence he could have simply joined the conference. That’s how I realized that until Kim Dan met the champion, he had always been working as an employee.
(chapter 1) This indicates that the doctor has not the mind-set of an entrepreneur and free-lancer. He allowed Choi Heesung and Joo Jaekyung to determine his work.
(chapter 31)
(chapter 32) And now, you comprehend why Kim Dan chose to become a courier
(chapter 42) and didn’t look for new patients. He needs a role model as entrepreneur and doctor. In my eyes, that’s where Cheolmin comes in. The latter should become Kim Dan’s mentor. Moreover, I would like to outline that by intervening in the doctor’s life and career, the champion was blurring more and more the boundary between private life and profession.
Another source for the tension between the captain and Team Black is that the doctor was treated like a full member by Team Black. Therefore he received an uniform
(chapter 9) and the welcome elixir.
(chapter 9). But like pointed out above, he is actually just his private physical therapist. For Kim Dan, the famous athlete is just a VIP client.
(chapter 25) It is relevant, because the doctor is not technically involved with the other members. He is attached to them, because they are very nice to him.
(chapter 9) There exists no contract between them either. Their relationship is simply based on the goodness from the characters. And now, you comprehend why the champion had to come to this welcome party. It is because he feared that the doctor would feel closer to them than to him. His money was already competing with the heart from the fighters. Is it a coincidence that the champion felt the need to remind them that he was the one paying for the party?
(chapter 9) Funny is that for his birthday party, money was no longer rivaling with the fighters. Furthermore, he was joining the table for real.
(chapter 43) Finally, he had another reason for not becoming furious during that evening. He had shared the goblet with the doctor, something that none of the fighters had done before.
(chapter 43) To conclude, the causes for the tension between the alpha and his members are the undefine position and duties of Kim Dan.
In addition, I noticed that the captain and Team Black are both associated with dinner. Whereas the champion stands for healthy but tasteless dinner
(chapter 13), Park Namwook and Oh Daehyun are representing the other extreme: junk food (too salty, greasy, too much sugar)
(chapter 22)
(chapter 37) or fasting!! Notice that Park Namwook preferred Kim Dan resting than eating dinner with them!
(Chapter 43) Joo Jaekyung listened to his hyung, as he had already heard such an advice before. But actually by skipping dinners, the doctor is living like in the past. This could lead to malnutrition again. As you can see, I sense here a new source of problem.
Another interesting aspect is that the champion desired to spare with his lover, but the former got punished by his hyung.
(chapter 26) He proposed this idea after seeing his lover learning moves from Potato. In other words, due to his jealousy, he offered his sex partner the possibility to learn from him.
(chapter 25) This was the positive aspect of jealousy. It is not surprising that the champion smiled during this little game.
(chapter 26) It helped them to become closer. Striking is that none of the boxers noticed the true meaning of this sparring.
(chapter 26) The members didn’t recognize how gentle the celebrity was towards his partner, therefore Park Namwook imagined that Kim Dan had been coerced to spare and the punch was the expression from anger and frustration against the alpha. Thus he came to misjudge the situation. That’s how Kim Dan got excluded from the ring. And this observation brings me to the following conclusion. Till episode 43, none of the fighters realized that Kim Dan was receiving a special treatment from Joo Jaekyung. They were totally oblivious of the truth, even during this incident!
(chapter 43) The boxer on his right was not shocked how quickly the athlete calmed down after realizing his mistake. They only got aware of this, when the athlete tried to make them jealous:
(chapter 43) That’s how it dawned on me why the champion will be forced little by little to expose his sexual orientation to the members from his gym. It is because the nature of the competition is changing. He is fighting with the members with his heart and no longer with his wealth and fame!! Joo Jaekyung made the discovery during that night:
(chapter 29) A puppy needs care and protection!!
This signifies that each decision from Kim Dan will affect the relationship between the alpha and his team. Imagine that the physical therapist decides to become a full member of Team Black and learn fighting. He would definitely work with Potato.
(chapter 23) In addition, I would like to outline that Potato had been favored by his hyungs
(chapter 22), because the latter was somehow neglected by the champion. They were compensating for the lack of interest from the captain. Interesting is that no one was missing Potato during that day and party except the readers. Why? It is because little by little, his adoration for the champion is vanishing. He is starting to have a life on his own. It is important, because Kim Dan could receive now more attention from the members than before, especially because he is receiving the good grace from his boss. Don’t forget that Park Namwook never protected them from his bad mood.
(chapter 36) He could become their speaker, their lawyer… a new version from this scene:
(chapter 37)
So far, Kim Dan has always viewed himself as different from the sportsmen, because he was just standing by the side
(chapter 36) or he was sitting in the office. It is not surprising that he kept his distance at the hotel, when the champion was taking his meal.
(chapter 37) But it started changing, after the athlete declared him as a part of his team.
8chapter 40) The problem is that he met the green-haired uke which reinforced his insecurities and low self-esteem. Observe that while returning home, he was only remembering all the champion’s words
(chapter 43) before his intervention with the MFC security guys. Hence I believe that this statement and embrace
(chapter 43) can only move Kim Dan’s heart. Finally, I would like to outline that the champion was asking his lover to become responsible for him.
(chapter 43) He should bring him home. If you read the essay “The Art Of Loving“, you already know that responsibility is one of the conditions for love. The others are trust, respect and knowledge! And this brings me to the final conclusion. Since no one among Team Black knows about the doctor’s past and second gig, it becomes comprehensible why Oh Daehyun, Potato and the others can not take care of Kim Dan properly.
(chapter 43) But the more the champion is revealing about his relationship with the doctor, the more the latter will receive recognition and protection from Team Black. Though the manager recognized that Kim Dan had been beaten
(chapter 11), he chose to close an eye to this. Thus he remained passive.
To conclude, the doctor is there to bring harmony and happiness at the gym. This can only happen through changes (like introduction of new rituals) and as such mistakes. His presence is little by little affecting the champion’s mentality. The latter is showing more and more concern for his fated partner.
(chapter 43) Though the doctor’s hands had been bleeding, Kim Dan chose to treat his patient first before taking care of his own wounds. His selflessness could only catch Joo Jaekyung’s notice. Doc Dan’s benevolence can only make him realize that fame can never be a source of joy and adoration is totally different from true love and warmth.

(chapter 43) In the podcast and in the list, I omitted one recurrent topic on purpose: REJECTION!!, We have this topic in chapter 1, 5, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37 and finally 43.
(chapter 13) He was acting, as if he hated kisses, foreplay and embraces. At the same time, he is showing his face, yet this is just acting. Thus the hyung replied the same way. He faked his anxieties and submission.

(chapter 37) from episode 37 could be still two different persons. However, the two of them have something in common: both are involved in creating an event, or better said in plotting!! Moreover, they participated in the last scheme. But the condition for a trick is secrecy and manipulation. And this is exactly what was happening in chapter 42.
(chapter 42) The roommate acted, as if he was a ghost, as if he had vanished into thin air. He kept a low profile and never asked the green-haired to stop arguing or insulting the young doctor. As for the other, he manipulated Kim Dan to scare him off. That’s the reason why I am more than ever convinced that the next plot is on its way.
(Chaoter 42) which he is no longer denying, I came to the deduction that the other is a pimp. Moreover, because I connected parallels between chapter 42 and episode 13, the doctor‘s words came to my mind:
(chapter 13) The expression „the pond’s been bone dry“ implies hiring. Naturally, Cheolmin meant that it was difficult for him to find a partner, but his declaration could be understood, as if he was referring to male escorts. As you can see, there was an indirect reference to prostitution in the end. However, he was not looking for a male prostitute. And now, if you look at the members from the XY VIP club
(Chapter 33), you will realize that they belong to the higher middle-class. On the other hand, Cheolmin pointed out that only desperate people would accept to be his sex partner
(chapter 13). Thus I come to the conclusion that the athlete was pushed to hire prostitutes in the end, for the other VIP members would refuse such a rough sexual behavior. That’s why I have always been suspecting that this club has been dealing with whoredom behind the facade. The silent barman could be the link. Yet, notice that Heesung has a different approach at the club.
(Chapter 33) He’s looking for his soulmate. This explicates why he could approach these new members so easily. Interesting is that Choi Heesung knows about his jinx and criticized him for his roughness
(chapter 33), but he never reproached him to hire escort boys. Our cursed Romeo is not linked to prostitution, hence when he saw Kim Dan during that night, he didn’t see whoredom, but roughness.
(Chapter 34) Therefore he was not repulsed. This explicates why he gave up on Kim Dan so easily.
(Chapter 35) So imagine his reaction, when he hears that Joo Jaekyung has been treating his angel as a male prostitute. He will get upset, for Joo Jaekyung is looking down on the protagonist‘s job and his magical hands. But let‘s return our attention to episode 42.
(chapter 42) Because prostitution was in the center of the argument, I am quite certain that the third person is also connected to it.
(Chapter 42) Moreover, the third man knows how to contact the physical therapist, through the restaurant. This means, he can sell the information to someone who is looking for fresh blood.
(Chapter 1) Or that could be Heo Manwook. Remember how the young protagonist got dragged during the day and no one intervened!
(Chapter 16) People‘s passivity and indifference is finally exposed in episode 42:
(chapter 20) and tell them how to meet the physical therapist. Heo Manwook or the physician just needs to call the restaurant and order food! Once there, he can get dragged into a room and abused physically and sexually. And the third man would be just fine. No one would suspect his involvement, in the worst case, that would be the green-haired whore.
(chapter 16). Though he accepted the insult by remaining silent, he still fought back, when the moneylender was on the verge of raping him. His minions had to help him to restrain Kim Dan.
(Chapter 16) But Joo Jaekyung didn‘t realize the true crime due to his biased perspective which I had elaborated in the first part.
(chapter 35). Besides the list of similar scenes was 1, 2, 13, 24, 25, 33, 34, 35 and 37. Except the scenes in the penthouse, Jinx-philes can recognize another similarity: Potato and Heesung! That‘s how I came to the following prediction: Yoon-Gu will come to the physical therapist’s rescue. It is also possible that the actor is present as well. Nonetheless, by fighting the pervert , Yoon-Gu would become a hero! It is important, because the physical therapist would recognize that even if he doesn’t mean much to Joo JAekyung, he has found a family, TEAM BLACK!
(Chapter 41) As for the fighters, they would come to resent Joo Jaekyung too, for Yoon-Gu and Kim Dan are so special to them. Simultaneously, the champion would be forced to meditate on his behavior and past words:
(chapter 42) Joo Jaekyung will come to regret these words in the end. He might even jump to the conclusion that the main lead was taking odd jobs because he wanted to leave or to pay the cancellation fees.
(Chapter 6) Yes, the two protagonists have to discuss openly about prostitution. Because he didn’t listen to his doctor, he reduced him into a bump. He is just a tool for his jinx. He was showing no respect to his partner.
(Chapter 18) Like mentioned before, the plot will affect their relationship forcing Joo Jaekyung to make a new deal. At the same time, if this truly happens, it would validate my interpretation that Kim Dan’s role is to contribute to the maknae‘s emancipation, like the wet dream implied it. The perfect Hero Joo Jaekyung would die in the puppy‘s eyes, especially when he discovers the existence of the champion‘s jinx!
(Chapter 2)
(chapter 35) And this pigment corresponds to the mixture of yellow and pink which are the colors embodying Yoon-Gu and Heesung. Interesting is that the artist and the fighter were not alone. There was a third person, when Potato chose to accept the invitation from the celebrity, Kwak Junbeom.
(chapter 35) Nevertheless, the witness didn’t notice the seduction from the artist, for he was sleeping due to the influence of the soju!! Thus Potato’s first sexual experience remained a secret. Yes, in this scene, Jinx-Philes can detect the similarities between 35 and 42. It is about sex, “attachment”, wrongdoing and secret. Potato employed the expression “There’s nothing wrong to…”. In addition, Yoon-Gu is still treated as a child by the fighters and Kim Dan, so such a suggestion could appear as scandalous. Interesting, is that no one noticed the sudden offer from Heesung, though they were in a public place. The owner of the food truck was not paying attention to them, as she was busy. Oh Daehyun had vanished, as he was not feeling well.
(chapter 35) That’s why this remained a secret. But more importantly, there was a discussion between the maknae and the actor about love.
(chapter 35) Funny is that when Potato expressed his admiration and reverence for the protagonists,
(chapter 35), he yelled. Though he looked angry, he was not.
(chapter 35) He was acting under the influence of his strong emotions and principles. As you can see, the discussion between Potato and Heesung was totally different from the one in episode 42. The gumiho and the chow chow came to the same agreement: accept not to be special for the protagonists, but to hold no grudge because of the rejection.
(chapter 35) Consequently, the moment you contrast Yoon-Gu’s declaration of unconditional adoration
(chapter 42) contrasts to this one:
(chapter 41) civilization, anger, night versus nature, calmness and day. In order to create money, trees need to be sawn. The grape and insects on the bill are fake. Hence I come to the following deduction that this mysterious person is only interested in money too. For this faceless person, money is the symbol of power and life. And now, you comprehend why this person didn’t offer to pay the dinner on his own
(chapter 42) contrary to the doctor:
(chapter 32). The third man embodies avidity, selfishness, but also calculations and frugality. The goblin and his companion didn’t order an expensive dish, as it only cost 40.000 KRW. 😉 50.000 KRW – 10.000 KRW
(chapter 32) Simultaneously, it exposes Kim Dan’s selflessness and thoughtlessness. He is bad at calculating and saving money.
(chapter 42) Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why I perceive this third man as the opposite of Kim Dan, notwithstanding sharing the same color. This signifies that the shadow is exactly like the green-haired uke: envious, greedy and stingy. Both appear as cheap. Because the goblin insulted him (“ass”, in Korean “Bastard/Asshole” and in Spanish “son of a bitch”), it becomes clear that these two are close, in the sense that they belong to the same social class. One might say that they are equal, but because the goblin badmouthed the other, their equity is just superficial. The green-haired uke looks down on the other. Since the goblin didn’t hide his bad mood in front of the other, I assume that they are both roommates. On the other hand, it is palpable that they are not affectionate towards each other. The goblin has no problem to voice his irritability in front of his “companion”. That’s how I deduce that both are united by the same desire: earn money on a quick and easy way. They are both using each other. I view them as “parasites” in the end. Since the goblin had no problem to expose his true thoughts at the door step
(chapter 42) The latter are getting closer to each other, taking care of each other. The breakfasts have become an important moment for them, where they share their thoughts and can make jokes. Hence the late snack in the small flat embodies the opposite: frustration and disregard. Thus in my eyes, the goblin and his “partner” are not interested in each other, because both are in a similar situation. They are not rich. Thus my idea is that the green-haired man hadn’t exposed to his roommate that he had been the champion’s lover in the past and the latter had beaten him. In my eyes, this revelation was new to the third man. How so?

(chapter 42) Moreover, the latter has no idea that Kim Dan is a physical therapist and even living with the main lead. And this brings me to the following observation. The goblin and his roommate imagined to see through Kim Dan and they are anticipating the delivery man’s next actions. How so?
(chapter 13)
(chapter 33)(according to me, the mysterious doctor), when he caught the actor and his manager exposing the truth.
The item was used for a nightly invitation, more precisely for a confrontation.
(chapter 35) Yes, the color is also green.
(chapter 35) And we could consider this scene as a reflection of episode 42 too. How so? The third person in this scene are the netizens reading the article. Why did the reporter contact him through the cell phone? It is because he can not face him out of fear to get punched! He is hiding his face behind the media and the public. This journalist is totally different from these reporters:
(chapter 37)
(chapter 40) The former is a hunter looking for blood, a huge scoop to destroy a champion. He is throwing over board social norms and morality. Since the bill of 50.000 KWR is embodying him, it reinforces my theory that the third man is a scholar, but a „fake“ one. And the moment you accept this idea, you will understand why I said that the green-haired man would receive his retribution. I have the feeling that he could get beaten. Imagine that the third man has the champion’s cellphone number. He could call Joo Jaekyung and inform him about the conversation in the hallway. He was insulted by his ex- sex partner. He could also try to blackmail the celebrity. If he doesn’t pay, then he will expose the “truth”. Naturally, he could hide behind the green-haired man. It is also possible that the goblin gets manipulated by the faceless man in the shadow. I am quite certain that the goblin will be caught in a scandal, and he will have to take the fall, betrayed by his roommate.
(chapter 33)
(chapter 33) Interesting is that the scenery from the first image reminded me of the district where Kim Dan was working as a courier.
(chapter 35) But why? Here, I can only speculate. It is related to Heesung and the Entertainment agency. Don’t forget that Heesung had asked his manager to keep his trick a secret
(chapter 34) In other words, I am suspecting the involvement of the champion’s agent. The latter could have let transpire to the tabloid journalist that there was some tension between these two. However, nothing happened between Heesung and Joo Jaekyung after the ride.
(chapter 33) Is it a coincidence that the author employed green in this scene? I have already demonstrated that the agent from the Entertainment company was involved in the conspiracy. Under this new light, you comprehend why I am suspecting a scandal during the birthday charity event. Many people will be present and all the lights will be directed at the star. By causing a scandal, the journalist would get noticed and even “glorified” as the hero denunciating “corruption and perversion”, whereas in reality it is the opposite. Like mentioned above, I can not totally predict his moves.
(chapter 42) and the physical therapist as victims. The man could even go so far to recreate the incident from episode 2. Let’s not forget that Park Namwook has the tendency to condemn Joo Jaekyung for any “wrongdoing” and he saw the main lead with bruises.
(chapter 36) And if Heo Manwook was involved in the conspiracy for the last match, he could see this new discovery as the perfect revenge. The champion is in reality a trash, a criminal! That would be the perfect revenge… He can not present himself as a victim contrary to the others. And that’s how Cheolmin would be forced to resurface.
(chapter 18) , Joo Jaekyung had an appointment there. So this treatment could be brought up. Moreover, I would like to point out that in chapter 13, Kim Dan never detected the presence and intervention of a doctor. It was the same in chapter 34/35, Kim Dan never caught and identified the presence of the third person.
(chapter 35) That’s how I recognized that none of the spies were “caught” or identified. Chapter 42 represents no exception, hence the third man feels safe.
(chapter 41) Hence I conclude that the green-haired guy and his roommate don’t care for each other. So while the readers are about to witness the rising of the physical therapist, I am expecting the opposite for this dangerous couple. They could destroy each other.
(Chapter 35) resembles a lot to the one between Kim Dan and the unknown man
(Chapter 42) Since the athlete‘s shoulder was already in bad shape, the former physical therapist might have proposed pain killers, but the star refused. Because the doctor considered himself as superior, he came to look down on Joo Jaekyung and chose to ruin his reputation so that the latter ended up having a novice, someone with no experience!
(Chapter 40) And his ambiguous reply
(Chapter 40) could lead the third man to assume that Joo Jaekyung is a hypocrite. He hid the prostitute as a member of Team Black. Once back to South Korea, he had no longer use of him! And that‘s how he got forced to „work“ as courier. Team Black could be suspected of being a cover for prostitution… especially when Heesung‘s relationship with Yoon-Gu is discovered. But appearances can be deceiving, as neither the green-haired uke nor his roommate are aware that the main lead is a physical therapist living with the celebrity. And this brings me to my final thought: since the Webtoonist created such a mystery behind the reporter and the third man, it becomes clear why Kim Dan‘s status is ambiguous as well. His nemesis is a shadow and so is the doctor! Both are working behind the scenes, yet at some point both will be pushed to reveal their face and identity. Whereas one will shine, the other can only fall into the abyss, like his name is indicating it.

(chapter 18) Then in episode 22 and 41, the physical therapist stood by the side acting like a cook.
(chapter 22) Consequently, the physical therapist has been working as the champion’s nutritionist. We could say that in episode 42, it is the same, as he is once again wearing the apron.
(chapter 41) And the champion came to enjoy this little moment during his long day. They became a part of his routine. This signifies that the association between breakfast and work was slowly vanishing. It was gradually turning into a moment of intimacy.
(chapter 42) Thus he couldn’t talk to Kim Dan. On the other hand, the cook had done his job, for the dishes were cooked perfectly
(chapter 42) Hence Joo Jaekyung couldn’t complain to the physical therapist.
(chapter 42) This means, the “intimacy” vanished, while the notion of work got reinforced. Consequently, I deduce that this little change, a tired doctor, unable to converse with him, will definitely affect the fighter in the long run. The latter will be forced to meditate about the cause for his exhaustion, but more importantly about his emotions and his real expectations from Kim Dan. Why was he annoyed, though the breakfast was made? Does he view him as a employee or a friend? This is what he stated in episode 18:
(chapter 18) His stay was justified with work. Kim Dan had a similar reaction. He considered the breakfast as a part of his “work”.
(chapter 22) and their desires
(chapter 22) Why? Was it because he didn’t want to share his penthouse to members from Team Black? For me, his main reason was Kim Dan! If they had come to his place, they could get close to the physical therapist. It would be more difficult for him to “control” doc Dan. He could even experience a similar situation than in episode 7, where he was totally left out.
(chapter 18) Intimacy without real warmth.
(chapter 4) His silent departure made the celebrity smile.
(chapter 4) However, in his mind, Kim Dan had not run away, for he had spent the night in his bed.
(chapter 4) The smile became the symbol of his miscalculation. He imagined that he was still in control of the situation.
(chapter 4) He had misinterpreted doc Dan’s action. So we could say, this was his biggest mistake. After their separation, he could no longer get in touch with the physical therapist triggering his biggest fears. No wonder why he got so mad.
(Chapter 5)
(chapter 18) , when he changed his mind and asked for sex as “breakfast”.
(chapter 18) The trigger for his change of attitude was the following announcement from Kim Dan.
(chapter 18) The physical therapist expressed his wish to leave the penthouse as soon as possible. Why? It is because Joo Jaekyung had drawn a line which the physical therapist shouldn’t cross.
(chapter 18) The sportsman was denying his benevolence towards the main lead. With such a statement, the famous athlete created the impression that Kim Dan’s presence in the flat was more or less “bothering” him.
(chapter 18) I would even add, he hates pity… exactly like Kim Dan.
(chapter 37) That’s why he reacted so strongly in the States. In my eyes, he imagines that someone could deceive him, if he was kind or if he loved someone. That’s the reason why he is acting so tough. What an irony! He is deceived, even if he is so brutal and strong. We have the perfect example with the MFC doctors and the MFC matchmaker. To conclude, in episode 18, Joo Jaekyung made sure to protect his heart from Kim Dan out of fear. And this could only backfire. The doctor chose that it was better to leave the champion’s side. But his declaration triggered the celebrity’s hidden anxieties.
(chapter 19) He would do it at any moment and at any place. Yet, we know for sure that the champion’s libido was different in the past. It was strongly intertwined with his matches. He considers sex as hard work and as such bothersome.
(chapter 29) So we could say that by requesting sex as breakfast, he deceived his partner. He might be smiling and happy
(chapter 18), but deep down, he was masking his abandonment and trust issues. For me, both characters made huge mistakes, for they were not honest to each other. Back then, Kim Dan was still rejecting sex, and as such denying the existence of his own pleasure. They could only misunderstand each other, because both were in denial about their own emotional and mental state. Hence they could only commit wrongdoings.
(chapter 22) For Joo Jaekyung, it was a mistake. Kim Dan had crossed the line. But the moment he tasted the food, he liked it so much
(chapter 22) that it put him in a good mood. Thus he smiled.
(chapter 22) However, observe that the champion tried to “deceive” his partner after tasting the food.
(chapter 22) First, he hid his happiness by looking so deadly serious. He was restraining himself to expose his true emotions. Secondly, in that same picture, he is voicing his doubts. He feared that the doctor tricked him in order to impress him. He couldn’t believe that he was such a cook. As you can see, the athlete considered the first breakfast from Kim Dan as a trick and wrongdoing, before he changed his mind. Here, I would like to point out that at no moment the athlete praised Kim Dan properly.
(chapter 22) It was reduced to a basic skills so that for him, the breakfast is still viewed as a part of his work. However, by watching the athlete enjoying his dishes each morning, Kim Dan got accustomed to observe a content man. It is quite clear that the champion is enjoying his dishes so much.
(chapter 41) His chewing is betraying his happiness. Through his happy chewing, the doctor started perceiving the athlete differently. He was acting more like a happy child.
(chapter 41) His expression made Joo Jaekyung smile.
(chapter 41) For me, it is clear that Joo JAekyung had loved this night so much that he hoped that Kim Dan would also have a good memory from it. Remember how happy he was after taking his shower. He was in such a good mood that he had placed the doctor in the middle of his bed.
(chapter 40) For me, Joo Jaekyung had enjoyed this night for many reasons. Kim Dan had been proactive. He had even accepted all the requests from the athlete
(chapter 39). At no moment, he had rejected him. Moreover, he had voiced his pleasure
(chapter 39) something that Joo JAekyung had been longing to hear from him.
(chapter 12) He had liked the love confession from Kim Dan, as he had replied to it with a kiss.
(Chapter 39) Finally, they had many rounds during that night. We could say, he had become the perfect lover during that night. However, the word “mistake” from Kim Dan triggered the champion’s memory.
(chapter 39) He had thrown all his rules over board.
(chapter 39) Imagine the doctor’s embarrassment, if he got to hear that he had peed twice while having sex.
(chapter 39) Moreover, he had challenged his sex partner by peeing on his face.
(chapter 41) Joo Jaekyung has no problem to expose his rough side to the physical therapist. Interesting is that he doesn’t get scolded by the doctor, though the latter is bothered by his reaction.
(chapter 41) That’s how I realized how the champion would affect the physical therapist forever. Through him, he will come to accept the usage of the fists. He will stop accepting the emotional, mental and physical abuse from others.
(chapter 1) to episode 7, where he punched the champion with his elbow.
(chapter 7) Finally, he was encouraged to punch the fighter during a sparring.
(chapter 10)
(chapter 18) each time his pride got hurt. Here, he was restraining himself out of anger
(chapter 42) Yes, his hand gesture reminded me a lot of the fighter’s:
(chapter 37) As you can see, the protagonists are influencing each other through their conversations and interactions. And this brings me now to the final breakfast scene, chapter 42.
(chapter 42) I would even add that he is no longer following the athlete’s rule.
(chapter 18) There is no ambiguity that the champion noticed the doctor’s dark circles.
(chapter 21) However, since the physical therapist has been working each night behind the champion’s back, I assume that such a scene
(chapter 1) The latter had also vanished suddenly!! According to Park Namwook, the champion had beaten him.
(chapter 42), I have the feeling that his partner is about to go through the same experience. With his disappearance, Joo Jaekyung would not only lose his delicious dishes, but also his only companion who was able to make him smile and laugh.
(chapter 41) to this
(chapter 41) However, there exists one difference to the first breakfast the physical therapist put on the table.
(chapter 22) The soup looks a lot like a seaweed soup, a typical dish offered in South Korea for a birthday. And now, you comprehend why in the illustration
, the first breakfast is facing the birthday cake
(chapter 41) The latter stands for anonymity, professionalism and admiration, while the seaweed soup embodies closeness, home and real affection. Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why the presents from the fans and companies are not making the celebrity happy.
(chapter 41) We can observe that his birthday is creating such a buzz that it looks more like a marketing event. Hence at no moment, the athlete makes a joke or smile.
(chapter 41) In fact, he is crossing his arms, as if he was putting a distance between himself and the gifts. In other words, his birthday is connected to business and artificiality which contrasts to the doctor‘s past birthday:
. (Chapter 11) One person, only on one day, and the present was the sweet bread which the little boy liked so much. This shows that the grandmother knew her grandson very well.
(Chapter 11) This simple party made the cute boy smile making him forget his worries and fears.

(Chapter 36) Yes, he is not allowing himself to eat „unhealthy“ food or to enjoy a „drink“. Under this new approach, it becomes understandable why the athlete got so furios, when he caught the trio having a party. First, he got upset, because he got excluded. He got jealous, because Kim Dan was laughing with the others.
(Chapter 22) And this is something the champion has been missing. When he paid off his debts, he wanted to make the doctor happy, hence he was looking at his facial expressions.
(Chapter 18) In other words, as long as Kim Dan is not laughing and smiling, the other can not find real happiness either, and I would even say, real peace of mind. But in order to make his partner happy, the latter has to cross the line. He needs to stop living like a champion all the time, and as such to become human. This implies that he needs to make mistakes, for error is human. At the same time, humanity is a synonym for benevolence and vulnerability. This corresponds to the charity event.

(special episode) The prince’s suffering is related to his mother, for the latter was not able to keep her promise.
(special episode 1) When he met her on her way to the other side, she couldn’t recognize Jae-Shin, her son.
(special episode) By forgetting Yeom-Ra, Seon and Mi, he would lose his only family and as such his own identity.
(special episode).
(special episode) Here, he wished to be like his brothers, but since he was growing like a human, his difference among the other ghosts and gods could only be noticed. To conclude, the painful meeting with his mother’s reincarnated soul led him to deny and reject his human nature.
(special episode) But by doing so, he renounced his heart.
(special episode) They chose secrecy and silence believing that ignorance was in Jae-Shin’s best interest. They never imagined that Jae-Shin would be still longing for his mother and try to meet her.
(special episode) They didn’t anticipate his move, for they thought that being surrounded by his immortal family would be enough. On the other hand, neither Seon nor Mi were aware of the gossips circulating about Jae-Shin. He was called a half-bred.
This shows that though they tried to protect their little brother, they were not able to shield him from “reality”. He was not like them.
(special episode) This means that the spirits and gods in the afterlife have all a role to play, but Jae-Shin represented the exception. In order to soothe the young prince’s pain, they convinced their donsaeng to think that he could be like them.
Thus they gave him an earing. However, if the Manhwaphiles pay attention to the reflection in the water, they will recognize the absence of Seon and Mi’s eyes. It is no coincidence, for the eyes are called “the mirror of the soul”. Since Seon and Mi are immortal, they have no soul like humans. They don’t go through reincarnation as well. As you can see, the image was exposing their distinction, but Jae-Shin didn’t notice it, for he was looking at the gift from the brothers: the earing! The latter, reflected in the river, was diverting the prince’s attention. Jae-Shin’s eyes are divulging the existence of his soul and as such his mortality. He might be very old, but he is not eternal. And now, you comprehend why Yeom-Ra turned him into a white puppy.
(chapter 51) It indicates that Jae-Shin is on the verge of becoming an adult. In other words, the curse should be viewed as an initiation ritual marking the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Therefore it is no coincidence that the prince helped the ghost Un-Hye to remember her name. This reflects his growing maturity. With his action, he helped Seon and Mi to do their duties. Thus he got praised by his brothers.
(chapter 53) Here, he appeared as responsible and mature contrary to the scene with the brothers at the brothel. In this scene, he reminded me more of a teenager.
(special episode) His coldness towards Seon and Mi corresponds to his rejection of his humanity.
(special episode), the infamous prince voiced the wish to become like them.
(special episode) As time passed on, he could only feel useless. Thus he came to resent Seon and Mi. He had the impression that they had deceived him. Since he was badmouthed in the afterworld, it is not surprising that he preferred dwelling in the human world, for the humans couldn’t detect his difference.
(special episode) It is important, because till his meeting with Lee Nok, he had not found the purpose of his long existence yet. But like Yeom-Ra stated to the other deities, Jae-Shin has a fate
(chapter 3) This signifies that his life has a meaning and purpose.
(chapter 44) The gossips reflect the disdain and alienation from the other spirits. On the other hand, the prince was also appreciated by the other divine kings Jin-Gwang and Cho-Gang
(chapter 3) It was, as if all the kings of the afterworld considered Jae-Shin as their own “son”. Moreover, the brothers love Jae-Shin very much
(special episode) They are always concerned, when it comes to him, but they behave differently, when it comes to humans in general. This explicates why the brothers suggest Jae-Shin to find another human, since Lee-Nok is destined to die very soon. They are slowly realizing that their brother is already falling in love with Lee Nok. They could sense his growing affection, when the latter announced that he would bring his partner to the afterworld.
(chapter 53) Interesting is that Seon and Mi are connecting feelings to humans
(chapter 53) not recognizing that they have developed an attachment to their donsaeng, though they are immortals. Thus you comprehend why I view Jae-Shin as the symbol of love in the end.
(chapter 3) and reincarnation of souls! It embodies “work” and “duties”.
(chapter 53) Home, residence versus workplace! Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why there existed this bad grapevine about Jae-Shin. He represented an anomaly to their world. Besides, the afterworld stands for trials and justice. On the one hand, justice should be impartial
(chapter 1), but when Yeom-Ra sentenced his own son to exile, he showed empathy towards him. He wanted to teach him a lesson. So in my opinion, Jae-Shin symbolizes restorative justice, for he stands for empathy and love.
(chapter 53) He restored justice by repairing the harm done to these two “ghosts”, thus the queen suffered for her trick. Moreover, observe that he is defending the woman, when his brothers appear to fetch her. She is not responsible for the fiancée’s death. That’s the reason why I came to the deduction that Jae-Shin is destined to fight against the evil spirit hiding behind Queen Han Chae-Hee.
(chapter 51) This image gives the impression that the queen is the vessel of this black shadow. The evil stepmother embodies revenge
(chapter 21), selfishness, ruthlessness and greed, the opposite values of Jae-Shin. If Yeom-Ra’s son had been ambitious or ruthless, he would have confronted the spirits badmouthing him
(chapter 53) Like mentioned in the first analysis about Jae-Shin, his destiny is to rediscover the existence of his heart and to reconnect with his humanity, a synonym for compassion and empathy. And this brings me to the following observation concerning Lee Nok’s role:
(chapter 54) His tears moved Jae-Shin’s heart, therefore he felt the need to wipe his tears. In that moment, he couldn’t help himself fulfilling the prince’s wish. Thanks to his intervention, Lee Nok could meet his former maid Eulsaeng. However, I would like to point out that this couldn’t have taken place, if the prince had not looked at his lover in the eyes!!
(chapter 54) Yes, this scene confirmed my interpretation of the special episode, the importance of the gaze. Jae Shin’s fate is moved by the eye, and as such by the human soul. Thanks to Lee Nok’s gaze reflecting his pure soul, Jae-Shin is rediscovering courage, conscience and integrity! Therefore he is becoming more selfless and humble. However, such a transformation also implies suffering. As a conclusion, the locked gazes between Lee Nok and Jae-Shin are the triggers for the ghost’s metamorphosis. This explicates why the mysterious blind man warned the crown prince
(chapter 31) about the protagonist trying to separate the couple. Moreover, the readers can grasp why the latter chose to distance himself from Jae-Shin, when he saw his hungry gaze reminding him of a monster:
(chapter 34)
(special episode), he was referring to the mother and her new life. Let’s not forget that she was not their mother, so she was not considered as part of their family. Finally, many centuries had passed. Thus I deduce that at some point, Jae-Shin made the resolution to move on from his mother, for she could never recognize him as her son. The pronoun “Them” was employed on purpose… it was to hide her gender. But there’s more to it.
(chapter 13) She couldn’t forget her family. Her sacrifice is the expression of her love for her husband and son.
(chapter 8) It was, as if she was punished for a past sin, the broken promise to her son.
(chapter 13) But how can Jae-Shin recognize a soul? It is because of the eyes. Notice that when she got buried alive, C. R.Jade let us see her gaze one more time.
(chapter 13) Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why the prince can not recognize his own mother.
(chapter 13) Besides, she was given a different name: YEOM! It resembles a lot to the king of the hell of ripping tongues, Yeom-Ra. And the connection between gaze and identity got confirmed with the ghost Jeong Un-Hye.
(chapter 51) As long as the ghost
(chapter 51) had not recovered her name, she had no real eye. The moment she recollected her name, she became human again, hence she had eyes again. And now, observe how Yeom is interacting with Jae-Shin. She acts like a mother, giving him some advice
(chapter 37) Note that Yeom distinguishes herself from the other spirits, because she possesses not only her memories, but also her identity: Yeom. But was it her real name in the past? Because the ghost remembers her past life and name, Jae-Shin is jumping to the conclusion that it was her name, when she was a human. Since the brothers asked Jae-Shin about Lee Nok and that human
(special episode), for Lee Nok is 10 years younger than his stepmother.
(chapter 2) The Manhwaphiles can detect the divergences between this coincidental encounter and his meeting with his mother. He is the one who paid no attention to the weeping kid:
(special episode). He hasn’t even made the connection between this meeting and the present. He showed the same detachment and forgetfulness than his mother, but he was not reincarnated. In fact, this scene exposes the lack of empathy and detachment of the spirits towards humans. And this brings me to the following observation. His interaction with the Crown Prince is pushing him to remember his past and his mother.
(chapter 44) It is important, because that’s how Jae-Shin could detect how Queen Han Chae-Hee acted like a god. His mother was supposed to remain a soul and go through reincarnation.
(special episode) Anyone has already heard the quote “error is human”. So how could a new messenger make a “mistake”?
(chapter 20) Moreover, the prince’s trick in episode 1 is exposing the opposite.
(chapter 1) The names can be switched. Nevertheless, the main lead got caught, for he is a half human. But what about the intervention of a god and king? No one would detect the trick, for it appeared naturally in the book of names.
(chapter 13) If he had been by his side, he could have protected her. And if Lee Nok’s appearance in the underworld is connected to his mother’s torment, he would have more reason to fight against her.
(chapter 37) Let’s not forget that soul has for synonyms heart, conscience and courage. Thus she embodies the opposite values. I have the impression that contrary to the son of Yeom-Ra, she can not enter the afterworld. She is condemned to live in the human world. But for that, she needs the sacrifice of others. Because she is feeding her own son a potion containing her hair and nails
(chapter 37), I come to the following deduction. She is using her son as a living talisman. It was, as if she was draining her son’s life energy in order to survive. What caught my attention is that she is connected to this particular tree
(chapter 13) It has no leaves, only red flowers. It was, as if the flowers would bloom thanks to the blood of others. This interpretation got reinforced, when Lee Nok painted a branch of the same tree
(chapter 51) The stain on the paper resembles a lot to a drop of blood. And notice that Lee Nok was smiling
(chapter 51) while painting.
(chapter 51) It looked like Yeom’s words had become a reality: That little thing smiled so happily like flowers in full bloom. This connection reinforced my theory that Lee Nok’s fate had been switched with Chae-Hee. Thus this observation seems to validate that the evil queen is cheating death by playing tricks with the book of names. This is not a coincidence that in that scene, the readers could detect the betrayal of the maid
(chapter 51) Eulsaeng who had started working for the stepmother.
(chapter 49), for the plant embodies dream and harmony. This explicates why it can chase away spirits and ghosts.
(chapter 13) Queen Yoon protected her son by accepting this dubious advice and by refusing to remove the curses.
(chapter 21) As for the evil stepmother, she is using her son as a living talisman and as such he represents her sacrifice.
(chapter 53), the agents were not able to bring the man to the afterworld.
(chapter 53) They were powerless in front of affection. To conclude, this chapter and the couple were indicating the strength of love… a sign that the human heart is not so weak!! So while Jae-Shin’s gaze in this image
(chapter 37) displaying his transformation, for this flower represents passion and romance. The red daisy reflects his gradual attachment to the Crown Prince. Consequently, it becomes comprehensible why I have been predicting Jae-Shin’s sacrifice out of love.

(chapter 40) and the blood test
(chapter 13) and a new face!!
(chapter 40)
(chapter 13) And by contrasting these two scenes, I realized that it reinforced my theories. 1. There must have been a phone call!! In episode 13, the champion must have called his chingu.
(chapter 40) However, the moment the guard with the sun glasses got caught, he tried to act as a savior. As you can see, this comparison reinforces my theory. The MFC manager must have asked the MFC security guys to cover up the incident. If not, they would be blamed for the matter!! And now, you comprehend why they had to know everything about Kim Dan.
(chapter 40) They needed to find any excuse to put the blame on the protagonist. Either he had a strong reaction because of his medication or because of a different meal… but since Kim Dan never replied to them, they had to frighten him, to coerce him to confess a crime.
(chapter 13) That’s how desperate and ruthless they were in the end. While dressed like FBI agents, they were acting like thugs and criminals. No matter what… MFC should not be involved in a scandal! And this brings me to my second discovery. Who else is wearing glasses in Jinx?
(chapter 1) Kim Dan got fired, for he was a new face!
(chapter 40) The intrusion of Joo Jaekyung in the office was caused by Park Namwook’s revelation. And it was the same, when the champion caught Heo Manwook with his minions.
(chapter 6) and the moneylender?
(chapter 16) Sexual harassment and the usage of the number to achieve their goal!! These two characters could hide their crimes with the assistance of other people (thugs, staff). We could say that both used an organization. Consequently, I am assuming that the MFC manager is doing the same!! Therefore it is no coincidence that Mingwa employed the same colors: blue, white and black
. (chapter 1) That’s the reason why I am suspecting that the MFC guys must have already been informed that Kim Dan might be the champion’s sex partner.
(chapter 1), but also he owns the club. This means, in chapter 40, as the team leader of Team Black, he protected Kim Dan!! It exposes that Joo Jaekyung used the organization to defend his lover and physical therapist.
(chapter 40) Joo Jaekyung is behaving the opposite from the perverted hospital director, Heo Manwook and finally the MFC manager. Thus it dawned on me that the reporter from this article did the same.
(chapter 35) and social medias
(chapter 36). Thus I deduce that the agent from the Entertainment agency and that lawyer are acting the same. They believe that they are safe, for they are both working for a huge company or law firm. And guess what… the doctor Kim Miseon is also wearing glasses.
(chapter 5) As you can see, thanks to the glasses, I discovered a new pattern. These schemers and helping hands are avoiding any responsibility by hiding their wrongdoings behind an institution or we could say behind a name.
(chapter 7) In the last case, it would be MFC!! But the reproach from the champion
(chapter 40) should have opened their eyes! Not MFC would have been involved a scandal… but only the MFC security team!! As you can see, the moment they had been informed about the incident, they should have reported the MFC manager to the highers-up! They should have never protected such a person in the end, because the latter is the reason why the organization would be involved in a scandal. That’s the reason why such people are framing others. They know how an institution works. Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why the plotters are trying to ruin the champion’s name!!
(chapter 36) It is because they are projecting their own thoughts onto the champion. He is just a person. However, what they don’t realize is that behind the athlete, there is also an organization: TEAM BLACK!!
(chapter 40) Because their scheme failed, there is no doubt that they will target the physical therapist, for he is much weaker. He is “new” in the team and he comes from a low social background. He has a sick and old halmoni. However, Kim Dan has almost become their true mascot!!
(chapter 36) Note that Oh Daehyun and Potato tried to investigate the matter with the doctor’s illness.
(chapter 38)
(chapter 38) Thus I deduce that because of Kim Dan, the members from Team Black will become more proactive. They need to show to these people that Joo Jaekyung is not alone, he is the alpha of a great gym… producing many champions!! In other words, the dragon with his yeouiju will be able to remove these Deceit’s webs and purify these institutions. As you can imagine, I am suspecting that Dr. Lee must have been blamed for the article
(chapter 27), for someone had to take the fall. I hope, we will see him again.
(chapter 29) However, here the item has a different signification. How so? It is because Joo Jaekyung was totally honest and was opening up to the physical therapist.
(chapter 29) It seems to contradict my previous interpretation about the glasses. But no… Observe that during that whole scene, the readers could see the champion’s eyes contrary to the MFC guys
(chapter 37), Kim Miseon
(chapter 21), Cheolmin
(chapter 29) Because he was wearing blue light blocking glasses, he was protected from “Agent Blue”, the positive version of episode 36 and 40!! This explicates why I consider them as a shield. He was trying to hide his vulnerability while confiding to Kim Dan.
(chapter 35) The Jinx-Philes could see his eyes too. He had come to the café with them to hide his identity, but in reality his action had the opposite effect. People noticed the actor.
(chapter 35) Striking is that as soon as the actor removed them, he got honest with the doctor. He revealed his intentions, but he got rejected. As you can see, the glasses can have a positive function. Consequently, I came to develop a theory which was triggered by the glasses. Kim Dan envisioned the athlete in a suit
(chapter 32), then he imagined him with the sun glasses
(chapter 35) Thus I come to the conclusion, Kim Dan will be the one turning the athlete into a star, a real celebrity! But he won’t be reduced to his body and face
(chapter 30) People will notice his qualities and talents so that he doesn’t need to prove his strength and power in the ring. The celebrities often use sun glasses to protect their anonymity. And Mingwa already implied that the champion’s birthday is around the corner.
(chapter 40) So he could offer the sun glasses to his savior. If this prediction comes true, then it means that Kim Dan will become the rival of the manager from the agency. Besides, it was the manager’s job to develop a strategy how to change the netizens’ opinion. But he chose to put the whole responsibility on his athlete.
(chapter 36) He could have shown that Joo Jaekyung was the owner of Team Black and he was training other athletes. It is important, because it shows that certain people hide their laziness behind the organization or a name. That’s the reason why I am expecting that Choi Heesung will play a role in the demise of the bad manager at the agency.
(chapter 33) Since he has sun glasses, he is already connected to spying. Don’t forget that he tried to determine the true nature of their relationship before giving up on his angel.
(chapter 32) Finally, I have the feeling that Team Black will come to act like the security guys in episode 40, investigate the matter why the champion and the doctor became the targets of malicious rumors and bad articles.
(chapter 40) This signifies that in this moment, Kim Dan decides to cross the line, especially since he likes the emperor. He is accepting that he means much more to Joo Jaekyung than being his toy. Because the champion called him “his person”, he felt moved and indebted. Consequently he started considering himself not only as being a part of the champion’s life, but also as a part of Team Black.
(chapter 40) led me to associate Kim Dan with a butterfly, for the latter symbolizes faith, hope, change and rebirth. And now, you comprehend why this illustration
contains blue-black butterflies. They are alluding to the physical therapist. The latter is wearing his blue uniform with the black jacket from Team Black.
(chapter 409. Yes, the hand from the MFC security guard reminded me of a spider. But there exists another reason why I came to connect the MFC security guys with the spider. It is because both are related to the web. There is no doubt that the MFC security guards wove a web of lies to Kim Dan. And how can we detect this? There exist different methods to expose the men in Black as manipulators and hunters. First, the MFC security guys are wearing glasses. Another method is to compare the interrogation scene with episodes from Jinx. Finally, it is important to examine their words and as such their speech bubbles. But let’s start with the glasses.
(chapter 31) Moreover, he was unable to detect the truth, when the artist faked his injury. He chose to put the blame on his athlete, while the one asking for the sparring had been Choi Heesung. Joo Jaekyung could not be held responsible for any injury occurring during a sparring. It was the artist’s choice and responsibility. This scene is important, because outside the ring, the coach, the artist and the other manager not only accused the champion of a wrongdoing, but also sentenced him. They acted like cops, victims, lawyers, doctors and judges!
(chapter 31) The coach’s attitude exposed his partiality. Funny is that while the goddess justice has her eyes covered,
, she embodies impartiality, because she is able to detect the truth through the testimonies. She is not blinded by prejudices (origins, social background, gender…) contrary to the characters in Jinx.
(chapter 40), but two were acting as the main accusers.
(chapter 40), a sign of his anxiety, nervousness and anger. It was, as if he had been caught. This little detail displays his knowledge. He knew that Kim Dan was innocent in the end. These two men wearing sun glasses were extremely ruthless and calculating, as if they had sold their soul to the devil. They were determined to frame Kim Dan, for he was new. Moreover, I believe that the sun glasses have another symbolism. According to my interpretation, Joo Jaekyung is represented by the sun, so wearing sun glasses indicates that they are trying to protect themselves from the champion. I will elaborate about this further more. Finally, wearing sun glasses is a sign for coolness and confidence. It looked like this item gave them the assurance to act like the tough and hardworking security agents. In other words, the sun glasses are strongly connected to acting! Yes, we were witnessing a fake investigation and trial! This leads me to the second method, the comparison of panels and scenes.
(chapter 11) Yes, the MFC security guys are mirroring Heo Manwook and his minions. And not just once, but twice!!
(chapter 16). In the interrogation room, the MFC security agents accuse him to have plotted against the celebrity.
(chapter 40). As you can see, Joo Jaekyung is utilized the same way than the grandmother. Moreover, I would like to outline that in episode 16, the main lead got kidnapped in broad daylight, and no one stopped them.
(chapter 40) Though the stadium was plunged in the darkness, the Manhwa lovers shouldn’t forget that the match took place at 11.00 am. So it should have ended around lunchtime. To conclude, the kidnapping and sequestration from the security agents is a combination of episode 11 and 16, therefore we have the same elements: blue and black reminding us of the night and the time as an indicator for the day. But let’s return our attention to the physical therapist in the arena. He was approached from behind, for the mysterious man touched him by the shoulder.
(chapter 11) or even trespass his house and rape him.
. (chapter 37), they supervise their food
(chapter 37), and finally they take blood samples or urine tests in order to ensure that the fighters didn’t use any drug.
(chapter 11) Funny is that Heo Manwook suspected the main lead to earn his money through illegal means, while in reality, the former is actually the one using illegal means. As you already know, for me, he is involved in the set up against the two protagonists. But it doesn’t end here. MFC guys are acting like legal authorities, thus they are wearing black suits and glasses
(chapter 40) reminding us of FBI agents.
(chapter 15)
(chapter 40) This means what they did was illegal. Moreover, these guys are working for MFC which is a private organization. These agents are not working for the government or for the department of justice. They have no “legal authority” in the end. This explicates why they didn’t provide any translator to the physical therapist
(chapter 40) resembles a lot to the one from the hospital,
(chapter 5) I couldn’t help myself thinking of a death sentence.
(chapter 40), the man leading the interrogation changed quickly his tone and accused him of being a criminal targeting the champion.
(chapter 11) Secondly, Mingwa created scenes, where someone would take action against a person or organization:
(chapter 30) Under this approach, it becomes comprehensible why they were wearing sun glasses, they served as a shield for a trial. No ID and no eyes means no identity.
(chapter 11)
(chapter 14) And that’s how the schemers discovered that their trick had failed. But this could have consequences for MFC, for the reputation of the MFC security guys would have been tainted. That’s why I believe that the manager had to find a way out. He must have advised the MFC staff to find a scapegoat in order to avoid a scandal… Kim Dan had to be framed… because he is the one who said that the nutrition shake came from the MFC!!
(chapter 40) MFC is a private organization, so they are not supervised. So they could do anything with this blood sample, like for example fake results.
(chapter 40) They backed off, but note that the “fake investigator” still asked the star about his special relationship with the target:

But be aware that this Manhwa is a Yaoi, which means, it is about homosexuality. Here is the link, if you are interested in other Manhwas:
(chapter 3) and Tae Jihwan
(chapter 1). But this confusion was just short-lived, as soon as I got to know these two figures. They might look similar first, yet their personality diverges so much. That’s how I came to realize why the author had selected the title “The Edge Of Ambiguity”. She is playing with turmoil, double meaning and enigma. She is confusing her readers on purpose. Why? EZ is raising the following questions. Who is normal or not, and as such who is the monster or not? Are their actions or words good or bad? However, for that, the beholder needs to have criteria for judging others. So how do we judge people in the end? Through reputation, rumors, actions, words or because of desires and interests? Through her work, the author is showing that perception is related to perspective and knowledge.
(chapter 32) Here, Tae Jihwan’s smile looks rather creepy and manipulative so that the beholder could view him as a freak or even a psychopath. But is this judgement about the protagonist correct? On the other hand, the smirk from Jihwan was directed at Lim Gyujin
(chapter 32), who got so mad at the main character that he assaulted the protagonist.
(chapter 32) Gyujin’s dark aura makes him look menacing and weird as well. Who is the “monster” here in the end? In order to judge these characters properly, it is important to put the whole scene into its context, and this action stands for knowledge and understanding. Therefore the Manhwaphiles can grasp why I chose “Hidden Monsters” for this essay. All her characters are moving along a thin line between normality and monstrosity. Yes, even the cute and sensitive protagonist Shin Soo-Young. 😮
(chapter 1) In this analysis, I would like to present these “hidden monsters”. With the term “monster”, I am referring to “cruel persons” and not supernatural creatures.
(chapter 2) Why? It is because children are supposed to receive the father’s name. To conclude, his birth represents a huge anomality. This explicates why Soo-Young is not mentioning his family situation to others so easily either. Only when he faced trouble, he confided to Gyujin and Tae Jihwan. As the son of a single mother, he considers himself as a burden and stain. This explicates why he is not living with his mother. Even when they are struggling financially again,
(chapter 23), he prefers moving to a cheaper place than returning home. Observe that he is even admitting that his mother’s place is more comfortable than his new worn out flat.
(chapter 27) I am also assuming that since he started visiting high school, he has been living on his own. Under this new perspective, it becomes comprehensible why Soo-Young is trying to act like an adult all the time. He doesn’t desire to add more stress and responsibility on his mother. No wonder why the student is not confiding to his own mother either.
(chapter 23) He feels that if he let her know about his struggles and problems, he would add more trouble to his parent. Because Soo-Young always sees himself as a burden to his “family” (he would cost money), he feels indebted towards them. He needs to repay them by “becoming a contributing member of society”.
(chapter 2) This means, he has to become successful at school and get a college degree so that once he gets a job, so that he can become the mother’s pride. However, this means that he is putting himself under pressure. He promised to his family, he would enter Hankuk University, but his counselor is suggesting to apply elsewhere .
(chapter 28) On the other hand, this imposed exclusion is not entirely voluntary, for this was initially suggested by the mother and uncle.
(chapter 2) Moreover, later he confesses that he feels very lonely. The best evidence that Soo-Young’s decisions are the result of the mother and uncle’s manipulations is their conversation at the hospital. Soo-Young didn’t desire to move away.
(chapter 2) His shaking hand was betraying him. He was upset. But note that the mother portrayed herself as an hindrance to her son.
(chapter 2) Moreover, the manhwaphiles should pay attention to her body language. She was closing her eyes, when she convinced her son to move out and to apply for Hankuk university.
(chapter 2) Finally, during her visit, when her son repeated her wish:
(chapter 23), she had a similar reaction. She turned away her head and closed her eyes
(chapter 23) before adding this peculiar comment:
(chapter 23) She insinuated that it was her son’s wish, yet the reality is that these wishes had come first from the mother and uncle! This explicates why she never objected to his desires. In other words, Soo-Young’s negative feelings about himself are caused by the mother and uncle’s advices and behavior. She told her son that she was a burden to him, thus the latter mirrored these feelings. He was a burden for the mother.
(chapter 6) He is viewing homosexuality as a “stain”, for it is rejected by Korean society. He fears people’s gaze and judgement and in my opinion, this anxiety is also strongly intertwined with his origins, the son of a single mother. This explicates why he rejects to be seen as a homosexual. He doesn’t want to be touched in public or even to kiss. This fear explains also why Soo-Young misinterpreted Tae Jihwan’s words.
(chapter 18) The latter was not rejecting homosexuality per se, rather Gyujin as partner. Yet, his words were so ambiguous that Soo-Young imagined that Jihwan was repulsed by homosexuality. But here, I have to add that Lim Gyujin played a role in this negative perception of homosexuality.
(chapter 12) The usage of blackmail is exposing the existence of a taboo, a violation of social norms. And how did Gyujin come to this solution? It is because the latter has been hiding his own attraction to Soo-Young as well. He justified their relationship by stating that Soo-Young had a crush on him.
(chapter 5) He went so far as to say that the main lead had been flirting with him.
(chapter 6). That way, Gyujin was avoiding assuming any responsibility. By acting this way, Gyujin was hiding his own sexual orientation. He appears as a hypocrite and coward. No wonder why Soo-Young saw his sexual orientation as a heavy weight. But since the seme got violent with Soo-Young
(chapter 6), the latter decided to break up with him. That’s how the blackmail started.
(chapter 6) Gyujin made sure to isolate Soo-Young. The former made the protagonist feel guilty and dirty, the moment Soo-Young pushed him away. Besides, his first sexual experiences
(chapter 21) with Gyujin were negative, for they were associated to coercion and violence. This explicates why Soo-Young could only see homosexuality as a monstrosity. Therefore he could only view himself as bizarre.
(chapter 1), but he convinced himself to keep his distance from him, for they were so different.
(chapter 26) Finally, the uke’s thoughts
(chapter 2) However, I started doubting this fact for two reasons. First, I would like to point out that Soo-Young has never met his uncle since the beginning of the story. In fact, the latter informs the main lead through the mother
(chapter 18) or through the cell phone.
(chapter 27)
(chapter 23) There is no direct interaction between them. Moreover, observe that there is no picture of this relative. It was, as if he was a ghost. Additionally, the mother even asked her son to limit their communication.
(chapter 18) Finally, Soo-Young stated that the uncle provided money to the mother
(chapter 18) It was, as if he wanted to get rid of the boy… he was the burden. Thus I can’t help shaking the feeling that there is an ulterior motive behind the uncle’s generosity. Moreover, when Soo-Young was moving in his new apartment, none of the relatives were present. Only Tae Jihwan assisted him. The uncle faked his “support” by calling him.
(chapter 27) Interesting that after listening to their conversation, Tae Jihwan asked him this:
. (chapter 27) He utilized the idiom “parents”, because he thought that Soo-Young had been talking to his father. He had not paid attention to the name “uncle”. As you can see, “the uncle” is really suspicious. For me, he has always been the mother’s companion, but he hid his true identity by the title “uncle”.
(chapter 23) He is not affectionate, he doesn’t confide to her.
(chapter 30). He has no one to lean on. Thus the concerns from the mother and uncle appear as superficial and fake, for they are more “empty words”. Their absence in his life is the evidence of their neglect and wrongdoings. They are monsters despite their sweet words, for they are “passive”, putting the whole responsibility on Soo-Young, while they are expecting to get something in return:
(chapter 13) the protagonist learned the following lesson: there is nothing free in this world. Thus he started questioning Tae Jihwan’s assistance.
(chapter 33) What does Tae Jihwan want from him? He wants sex!
(chapter 22) The expression “fuck his brains out” are making the main lead look like a sex monster! 😉
(chapter 2) But the readers are left in the dark about the nature of their past relationship. It was, as if Soo-Young had been a victim of bullying and was coerced to live as an outcast. This panel illustrates his isolation perfectly.
(chapter 2) However, the moment Guyjin witnesses the exchange of greetings between the two main leads
(chapter 2), he stayed outside the classroom. Their brief interaction had caught Gyujin by surprise. He was left paralyzed. He.feels frightened, for he has the impression that Soo-Young could escape from his control. This explicates why later he approaches Soo-Young again
(chapter 2) He desires to separate them. What caught my attention is that his words are actually reflecting his own personality. Gyujin has a good reputation among his peers, but his interaction with Soo-Young exposes that he can not be judged by his cover. This person is very manipulative, and not just with Soo-Young, but also with other school mates, like for example with Hyunwoo. The latter is envious of rich people, especially of Tae Jihwan.
(chapter 1) Yet he was staying close to the main lead, for he could benefit from this relationship. The girls would approach him, for he was Jihwan’s friend and he got the opportunity to party without spending any money. However, the moment Gyujin noticed that the two protagonists got closer, he chose to use Hyunwoo as his pawn. On purpose, he criticized Hyunwoo in public by siding with Tae Jihwan
(chapter 14) so that the latter would feel upset and betrayed by Tae Jihwan.
(chapter 14)
(chapter 14) By confronting him with the truth, he earned Hyunwoo’s trust. Gyujin utilized Hyunwoo’s resent towards Tae Jihwan to blackmail Soo-Young again.
(chapter 21) Hyunwoo became his spy and that’s how he got the picture with the kiss.
(chapter 20) Yes… this little monster is exactly like his mentor Gyujin, a hypocrite hiding behind social norms. Thus Hyunwoo condemns homosexuality.
(chapter 21) and his mentor doesn’t object to this statement.
(chapter 6) In this scene, the main lead didn’t desire to drink from the can, because it would have been like an indirect kiss. That’s how the antagonist realized the main lead’s sexual orientation. But like mentioned above, he forced the young boy to kiss him
(chapter 21) and to do him a fellatio
(chapter 6) But why did he act this way? One reason is that Soo-Young was rather innocent and passive. He discovered his sexual orientation rather late.
(chapter 6) Moreover, Gyujin couldn’t control his urges. Besides, he felt that he had the upper hand, for he had been helping Soo-Young financially.
(chapter 6) And his negative attitude towards the uke becomes more obvious, when you compare his visit .
(chapter 5) with Tae Jihwan’s.
(chapter 10) Criticism after arriving unannounced versus no comment and planned visit. However, Gyujin was never perceived as a controlling and manipulative freak by his classmates. Why? It is because they met in secret. It was always after school.
(chapter 5)
(chapter 5) To conclude, their relationship remained a secret. No one in their class suspected that they were friends, for they were not interacting in the open. However, everything changed the moment Tae Jihwan joined Soo-Young’s class and the former greeted the uke. Because of this small interaction, Gyujin felt insecure and approached Soo-Young again and this was caught by Tae Jihwan.
(chapter 2) That’s how the latter realized that they were “friends” which led him to ask for Gyujin’s help.
(chapter 3) However, the latter couldn’t refuse so openly, for the true nature of their relationship was still a secret. On the other hand, this request pushed Gyujin to act behind the back of Tae Jihwan. That’s how his hypocrisy becomes more and more obvious. However, his hideous side reached a new peak, when he trespassed Soo-Young’s house in the middle of the night and tried to rape him.
(chapter 35) He became a real criminal, thus he covered his face with a mask. So who is he in the end? For Tae Jihwan, he is a parasite
(chapter 35), as he has been clinging onto the poor student while guilt-tripping him. According to Gyujin, Soo-Young used him to discover his sexual orientation. His hypocrisy, manipulations and hidden brutality make him look like a psychopath, or better said as someone suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder. But he is not, in my eyes he is closer to someone suffering from NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder).
(chapter 22) To conclude, this character is an antagonist, but his monstrosity only comes to the surface, when it comes to Soo-Young.
(chapter 1), then he forced him to smoke a cigarette
(chapter 1). Finally, he had a rather enigmatic smile.
(chapter 1) He was oozing danger and arrogance. We could say that he was introduced as a bad boy, for he arrived late on his first day. On the other hand, he was also described as a very good student.
(chapter 1), thereby he got admitted to class 1, where all the students are hardworking. Another interesting aspect is that when he arrived late in the classroom, the schoolmates called him a psycho! However, only in episode 41, we discover that he is indeed suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder.
(chapter 41) But why is it only revealed so late? It is because the author desired the readers to get acquainted with him before discovering his illness. He should be judged based on his actions and not on this diagnosis. Through the two seasons, Tae Jihwan got the opportunity to act like the “knight in shining armor” towards Soo-Young.
(chapter 33) First, Soo-Young got blackmailed and threatened by Gyujin and Hyunwoo with this picture:
(chapter 21), he got slapped.
(chapter 21) That’s when Jihwan entered the room, a sign that he was waiting for the right time. With his entrance, he was able to turn the table to his advantage.
(chapter 22) Then when Gyujin tried to rape Soo-Young, the main lead was able to arrive on time, for they had been talking over the phone.
(chapter 32) He chose to take advantage of the situation in order to have Gyujin expelled from school. And now, you comprehend why Jihwan smirked at the perpetrator!
(chapter 35) His mental disorder is no secret and is even circulating among the upper-class. In my opinion, it is related to this incident. When he was younger, he attempted to strangle a playmate, Han Do-Yoon.
(chapter 41) But why did he do this? He described this as an urge, but when you see his smile directed at his father,
(chapter 41), it becomes obvious that this action was against the father as well. He wanted to show him that he was his true son.
(chapter 41) How so?
(chapter 39) With money, he had helped Choi Yoojin. However, this generosity was not for free. He wanted to obtain her love. He had coerced to marry him and to have a child with him. He imagined that if they had a child together, she would come to love the child and as such him.
(chapter 39) Thus he made the promise to release her, once he had a child. He was hoping that time would be on his side. However, the opposite happened. The woman came to resent Tae Jihwan, as he was a constant reminder of the broken promise. Thus she strangled him on a regular basis.
(chapter 39) Since the father knew that his love was not reciprocated, he imprisoned her. Since she was trapped, she got depressive and aggressive. The worst is that her son was the one who had to take care of his own mother.
(chapter 39) His task was to deliver her medicine. And in order to justify her absence to others, Choi Yoojin was portrayed as a mentally sick person suffering from schizophrenia.
(chapter 39) Seong-Jun hid his crimes behind rumors and deceptions, but his intelligent child was no fool. Yes, he is another monster, but I doubt that his new wife is aware of the true story. This situation escalated to this ultimate threat:
(chapter 39) That’s the moment the mother chose to kill herself.
(chapter 41) She cut her wrists in the bed, while her son was sleeping next to her. Tae Jihwan loved his mother despite her harsh treatment. It is perceptible, because he enjoyed sleeping next to her.
(chapter 39)
(chapter 39) And now, you comprehend why Tae Jihwan chose to provoke his father.
(chapter 40) At the same time, his action was like a reminder to the father. He would be tormented, each time he would see him. This explicates why the father doesn’t like meeting Tae Jihwan and he is already talking about sending him to the USA. He wants him to move out, for he feels his presence as a burden, the reminder of his failure. Let’s not forget that after Yoojin’s suicide, the father cried,
8chapter 41) but he totally neglected his son.
(chapter 41) This shows that this child had never been the fruit of love, but a mean to control the mother. At the same time, the manhwaphiles can grasp why Tae Jihwan hates lies and hypocrisy more than anything else.
(chapter 40) That’s the reason why he doesn’t consider people around him as friends. He knows that they are only interested in him because of his father and money.
(chapter 2) One detail caught my attention is that his “acquaintances” sometimes call him “Taeji”! Tae is the father’s name. They want to be close to him because of his father. In other words, although he is surrounded by people, he is in reality a lonely person. He is in the same situation than Soo-Young in the end. He is abandoned too.
(chapter 39) The scene with the abandoned cat is exposing that Tae Jihwan is not a cruel and violent person per se. He is capable of taking care of people, but by growing up in a toxic environment, he came to see “love” in a negative light.
(chapter 39) Back then, he imagined other methods how to keep his mother by their side
(chapter 39), but her suicide changed everything.
(chapter 39) This made him realize his powerlessness. For me, her action taught him the following lesson: you can not force your love onto someone! This explicates why Jihwan is not coercing Soo-Young to kiss him
(chapter 36) or to have sex with him. He wants to have his consent all the time. If the latter rejects his advances and caresses
(chapter 25), he accepts his refusal. He gives him his free space. He is trying to move at his love interest’s space. The best illustration is visible in this panel:
(chapter 27) He wants to live with Soo-Youngas roommates, but it is not to have sex with him immediately. Though he said this to Gyujin
(chapter 35) Tae Jihwan ruined Gyujin’s hand with the knife his mother used to cut her wrist. This shows that he was seeing his father in Gyujin. But was he a brutal monster here? Yes, because he did himself justice, he was violating the laws.
(chapter 35) On the other hand, Gyujin didn’t get charged for the sexual assault on Soo-Young.
(chapter ), there is no doubt that the latter would have been able to escape from punishment. Just like his father did… he trapped Yoojin, and even drugged her in order to keep her docile and no one intervened. Under this new light, it becomes comprehensible why Jihwan punished him so cruelly. He targeted his fingers, because the antagonist had put them into Soo-Young’s hole.
(chapter 35) Jihwan couldn’t forget the uke’s fears and tears.
(chapter 35) On the other hand, we shouldn’t overlook that Jihwan’s extreme action was actually supported by the father’s assistant, Mr. Jeong.
(chapter 35) He was present, when Gyujin got wounded. He even obeyed the young master’s order, to fetch another tool. He was also present, when the mother got trapped and drugged.
(chapter 37), a sign that he is not treated properly. Remember that her illness was described as “schizophrenia”. For me, this story is exposing that people shouldn’t be judged based on their reputation, social status or their “illness”.
