When the manhwalovers were reading chapter 11 and 12, many got so upset because of Kim Dan’s terrible fate that they were or are already thinking about dropping the manhwa. Thus we could say that many felt like the protagonist: “I 
(Chapter 12) What the physician expressed on the bed reflected their own thoughts and emotions. But why did they feel such negative emotions? Simply because they had witnessed the rapid and brutal shattering of the doctor‘s hope 😭 with their own eyes and heart.
1. Between dream and reality
What caught my attention is that in the beginning of episode 11, Kim Dan was full of hope again. Thus he was standing in the bus while looking up. 
(Chapter 11) The position of his head and body was mirroring his emotional and mental state. And this contrasts so much to the end of the chapter. Not only he was on his knees, but also he was looking down. 
(chapter 11) Imagine that within the same chapter, the main lead’s attitude and position were turned upside down. What a roll coaster of emotions for Kim Dan and the manhwaworms! Therefore it is not surprising that many were so distressed. But why was he so hopeful in the beginning of episode 11?
For the first time, he was thinking about the future, he had the impression that he could finally see the end of the tunnel. (Chapter 11) Thanks to his „contract“, he was able to pay not only his grandmother‘s expensive treatment, but also the interests of his loan. 
(Chapter 11) Remember that he had done it twice and this in a such a short time. 
(chapter 1) This signifies that with such a salary, he could put an end to this vicious circle, the snowballing interest. That’s the reason why he had become so hopeful. It was, as if he could finally breathe, and a huge burden had been taken from his shoulder. This shows that so far, he had lived from day to day. He had been on survival modus. All his thoughts were focused on earning money. However, his “dream” to end this terrible servitude to the loan sharks was linked to his contract with the famous sportsman. 
(chapter 11) which was also a form of servitude. Consequently, it is not surprising that he viewed his relationship with Joo Jaekyung not in a good light. 
(Chapter 11) For him, it sounded, as if having sex with the champion had become the worst thing in his life. Notice that though he mentioned the snowballing interests, he didn’t envision the loan sharks at all. He was already occulting them, for he had paid the interests. To conclude, in the bus, Kim Dan had the impression that his life was about to change for the better… though he disliked the idea to be dependent on the fighter. However, reality caught up with him very quickly.
2. The loss of his home and its signification
First, the phone call made him realize that he was actually on the verge of losing his home. 
(Chapter 11) Secondly, this exposes that he had never paid attention to his house. There was mold, for he hadn’t ventilated and heat the room enough. 
(Chapter 10) He had not the time, the money and the energy to do so. As you can see, he never realized that he had other problems than money.
Moreover, his main goal had been to ensure that his grandmother would return to his side after recovering from her terrible illness. Striking is that the main lead had associated her recovery to their home. 
(Chapter 11) On the one hand, this promise exposes the sentimental value of his home, on the other hand this statement shows that he had lied to his grandmother. The redevelopment had been planned for quite some time, but Kim Dan must have never mentioned it to her. Why? It is because he didn’t want to make his relative worry. At the hospital, the manhwalovers could detect all his lies. He never mentioned his firing from the hospital to his grandmother. Secondly, he embellished his new job. Finally, when he exposed his discomfort, 
(chapter 7) he gave just a false excuse. As you can see, Kim Dan had long started hiding everything from his grandmother: his job situation, his physical conditions and the redevelopment. Moreover, if he had revealed his forced relocation, he would have felt terrible. He was breaking his promise to his grandmother. To conclude, he had made a promise to his halmoni which he could never keep. It was simply impossible, but he preferred occulting it, for her health was more important than anything else. This displays that he had been caught in an illusion. The irony is that despite the harshness of his life, he was still living in a “dream”. How could he expect his old relative to live in such conditions after suffering so much from cancer? For me, there is no ambiguity that the protagonist has long connected the loss of his home to the vanishing of his halmoni. He seems to be living in the past, remembering the good aspects of his childhood. 
(Chapter 5) A protective and loving halmoni who would do anything for him. 
(Chapter 11) That’s how he could survive in the end. His grandmother represented everything for him. She was his motivation to keep going despite his struggles.
3. Halmoni: a role model or a bad example?
I would even go so far to say that the terrible condition of the house reflects the halmoni’s physical condition: old and damaged, because the person was constantly overworking. Thus she neglected herself prioritizing her grandson. That’s how little by little the flat got neglected too, but the young man didn‘t notice it. Unconsciously, the main lead copied his role model. Thus at the end he fainted. 
(Chapter 12) And this leads me to the following observation: the causes of his syncope. Exhaustion, the constant stress, dehydration and low blood sugar. Note that before the last sex session, he only drank wine. 
(chapter 12) The manhwalovers never saw him eating. But this doesn’t end here. Since he was plagued with financial problems, he had to live frugally. Thus he came to neglect his own health. This is no coincidence that the readers saw him drinking an energy drink 
(chapter 1) and eat ramyeon 
(chapter 1). He would even skip his meals. 
(chapter 5) For me, he internalized from his grandmother how to save money. There is no doubt that in his childhood, she could never eat to her heart’s content, which he noticed and now he is copying her. Thus he learned to live gradually with an empty stomach. Besides, I believe that his nutrition was never balanced. Since the sweet bread was perceived as a luxury
(chapter 11), I deduce that his guardian couldn’t afford meat either. This explains why Kim Dan didn’t grab the food immediately. 
(chapter 11) He didn’t feel hungry despite working hard. In other words, he has a small stomach. And now, you have the explanation why Kim Dan is so weak. 
(chapter 12) As you can see, I think that Joo Jaekyung’s words were somehow revealing the truth. He has no stamina, for he used up everything. So far, he could keep going due to his worries and his goal, saving his grandmother. However, with the last sex session, he used his last energy reserves. Therefore we could say that the beating from the loan sharks broke down his last resistance.
But the halmoni had also another negative influence on the main lead. She is the one living in the past, 
(chapter 5) thus she treats Kim Dan as a child. This explicates why she kept the yoghurts for him. Yet, what the young man needs right now, is no sweet, rather a good healthy meal. This scene exposes that she is also feeling sentimental about their common past… and now, you comprehend why the physician chose to hide the redevelopment from his grandmother. But the more a person buries the struggles and worries, the more dangerous it is, when the truth is exposed. It can literally explode and wound the person who was supposed to be protected. Don’t get me wrong. I am not blaming the grandmother for her behavior, her attitude is quite normal. She has long internalized to protect her grandchild, that she can’t change her behavior. Besides, that’s her way to cope with her illness. Since she can die due to cancer, she fears the future. Hence her only way to keep living is to focus on the past and her good memories with Kim Dan. These precious memories serve as a source of strength for her not to give up. And now, the manhwaphiles can grasp why the main lead was dwelling so much on the past as well.
Because he is missing his halmoni so much, he still has a false perception of his flat. In his mind, his small room has not changed since his childhood, thus he remembered the sweet bread his halmoni brought back for his birthday. 
(Chapter 11) For him, this place had become a refuge and sacred place, where he could feel love and protection. However, this was just a chimera, like the night of his return proved it: his meeting with the loan sharks.
4. The loan sharks
Like pointed out above, the doctor had imagined that since he had paid the interests right on time, he didn’t picture them in his mind. It signifies that he no longer considered them as a source of danger. Consequently, I conclude that in the past, Kim justified their violence, for he had not been able to keep his promise. He had not paid the interests right on time.
(chapter 1) This shows his naivety. In reality, the loan sharks are parasites. Their intention is not to help a borrower, but to turn them into slaves. Yes, this is a modern form of slavery. The moment a debtor takes a loan, he can never fulfil the contract so that he becomes a slave. Hence the interests keep increasing, like the doctor noticed it: a snow ball system. Though the borrower had paid the money right on time, the loan sharks were still waiting in front of his house for one reason. To ensure that he wouldn’t be able to escape from their claws. 
(chapter 1) Their violence was never justified in the end. Nevertheless, since the physician forgot this incident, he somehow dreamed that when he paid a huge amount so suddenly, the loan sharks would leave him alone. 
(chapter 10) Nonetheless, the opposite happened, for the doctor had not grasped their mentality. To sum up, Kim Dan had made a huge mistake. He never thought that these three men would consider him as their slave. Thanks to money they can live a carefree life. The “snowballing interests” is their revenue. To conclude, the scene in the bus exposed the doctor’s innocence and illusion. In fact, the home is the reason why he could get beaten. The loan sharks knew where to find him. However, since the young doctor had paid on time, they needed to find a new justification for their brutality. 
(chapter 11) Kim Dan must have done something illegal. That way, they appear as “righteous citizens”, while in reality the thug was actually pissed off for a different reason: “I … hate it” (that) you could pay a huge amount of the interests”. His success symbolized the opposite for them, a reduction of income. Moreover, the man feared that the young man could actually pay back the loan with the interests. This is perceptible, when he argues with the main lead. 
(chapter 11) If this happened, they could no longer earn money without working properly. And now, you can grasp why these three cowards attacked the pure physician so cruelly and brutally. Not only they vented their anger on Kim Dan, but also they desired to demonstrate their power and superiority. This bloodshed was purely gratuitous and even entertaining for them. 
(chapter 11) As the manhwaphiles can understand, the loan sharks embody the opposite values of Joo Jaekyung. The latter is earning his money through fair fighting, but it is not at the expense of people. Even his counterpart is earning a living. Finally, these fights are following rules, while the loan sharks are changing the rules constantly. (chapter 11) This is important, because even if Kim Dan continues paying the interests and the loan, these three men won’t stop bothering him. And remember the comment from the black-haired man. (chapter 11) He was annoyed that he couldn’t meet the protagonist. This means that the moment the main character moves out, the loan sharks will go to the hospital, with the excuse that Kim Dan is now hiding. They will ask the halmoni about her grandson’s whereabouts. 
(chapter 11) In addition, the readers can detect the loan sharks’ hypocrisy when one of these men said this: “Danny boy! You had it in you all along! Shoulda tried a little harder a little sooner!” These thugs need to know where he lives so that they can barge in his life, and even ruin his career. Their goal is to maintain him enchained to them. And they could even deceive the grandmother, for she was left in the dark about the redevelopment. 😨 Thus she could jump to the false conclusions that Kim Dan is paying her treatment with the money from the loan sharks. 
(chapter 7) To sum up, the main lead made a huge mistake with his well-intended deceptions, though he was trying to protect his loved one. For me, the main lead should have never lied to his halmoni. The latter will blame herself for her grandchild’s situation. The debts are the result from a bad decision, when the young main figure was a child, and now she is sick. So she could think like this: “I … hate it, my grandchild has to suffer because of me”.
Under this new perspective, it is comprehensible why at the end, Kim Dan had a different perception of Joo Jaekyung. The latter represented his final straw and rescue buoy. The doctor was now ready to give up on his pride. He was now admitting his defeat. (chapter 11) The end of the “illusion”. Alone, he couldn’t survive, he needed his help. However, instead of confessing his situation to the champion, he had been a victim of ruthless loan sharks, he created a false impression on the fighter. 
(chapter 11) He was a drinker, he would spend money like a thoughtless person. 
(chapter 11) That’s why I thought this: “I … hate it, that Kim Dan didn’t reveal the truth!” With his deceptions to his halmoni and Joo Jaekyung, he created a false image about himself.
5. Kim Dan’s confession in the bedroom
And now, it is time to focus on the last sex session in the penthouse. (chapter 12) Why did he say it? For me, these words are not just related to the sex session. They are connected to his actual situation, he feels trapped and hopeless again.
What caught my notice is that Joo Jaekyung is not reduced to his huge anaconda, but to his fist and punch. 
(chapter 12) This exposes Kim Dan’s true thoughts. He doesn’t truly hate sex with him, he rather fears his punch and fist. But why? It is because he has always watched his matches 
(chapter 1) and he saw his training too
(chapter 7) He knows his strength and power. It displays that Kim Dan has long admired the celebrity for his force. On the other hand, he witnessed twice how the young man wounded people, creating the image that Joo Jaekyung was a common brute. However, it simply exposed that Joo Jaekyung had not learned to restrain or control his force. He has long internalized how to employ his strength to the maximum. Secondly, despite the roughness, Kim never viewed the fighter as a sadist. However, Kim Dan is still refusing to admit pleasure with Joo Jaekyung. 
(chapter 12) Why? It is related to the contract. He considers it as a job, hence he shouldn’t enjoy it. Striking is that due to the sexual pleasure, he started forgetting everything: 
(chapter 12) This is important, because it shows that Kim Dan has never learned how to stop worrying and even enjoy life. Due to sex, he is putting everything behind: the loss of his home, the beating from the loan sharks, the halmoni’s illness. All his life, he was struggling, hence he had not the time to fall in love or to develop an interest in sex. He never had the time and occasion to ponder about his own sexual orientation either, yet there is no doubt that he felt attracted to the fighter. This could be perceived during the first massage. That’s the reason why I believe that when he confessed this to Joo Jaekyung: (chapter 12), he had detected the changes in himself which he couldn’t control. He would stop thinking about money and other problems… He would feel pleasure, something he had never experienced before. In other words, he feared the changes, which contrasts to his mindset, living in the past through memories. But at the same time, he could sense that he couldn’t control his emotions and thoughts. Finally, I had already outlined that he takes pride about his job. By becoming a doctor, he had the impression that he could escape this vicious circle of poverty. But now, it looks like, even as a doctor, he can’t live properly. By becoming a “prostitute”, he can not feel proud.
Another important aspect is that he never stated: “I … hate you!” This shows that Kim Dan is not blaming the champion in the end. While many readers were upset about Joo Jaekyung for his immature and selfish behavior, they overlooked that the young man was at no moment mad at his sex partner. 
(chapter 12) Why? It is because the champion is keeping his words. Besides, the young man is not expecting anything from him except money. 
(chapter 12) That’s how he has lived so far. He doesn’t like to be pitied. Moreover, he let him sleep in a bed. Finally, he woke him up, when he desired to leave for work. 
(chapter 12) At no moment, the young man resents the champion contrary to many manhwalovers. The latter blamed him for the doctor’s unconsciousness, while in truth the causes were more elsewhere.
But since Kim Dan experienced a huge downfall within the same chapter (11), I come to the conclusion that it is the same for Joo Jaekyung in episode 12. Here, he had the impression that he would be able to outlive a dream 
(chapter 12), the reality was that he couldn’t do more than one round. 
(chapter 12) His hope got shattered too. 😉 Thus he was so bothered the next morning that he couldn’t hide his disappointment. (chapter 12) “I … hate it… that you are so weak”. But there is hope, because he asked the right question: 
(chapter 12) And that’s how his malnutrition, his bruises, his exhaustion and dehydration could come to the surface. Because the main lead made the mistake to give alcohol to the physician, he will regret his decision. Thus he can only come to the conclusion that in the future, he should never offer him any drink. He could even request from him abstinence, and this would even help the champion to hide his own weakness. He doesn’t drink either. Moreover, the champion could force his partner to drink 
(chapter 4) and eat on a regular basis healthy meals, and train his body. I am more than ever convinced that Joo Jaekyung’s role is to take care of the young physician who has always sacrificed himself for his grandmother. The latter can not fulfil this function. As a conclusion, Joo Jaekyung has already experienced that money can not solve everything. If he wishes to keep his jinx away thanks to the doctor, he has to pay attention to his physical condition. This is all the more relevant if he wishes to have many rounds during the night. 😉These are the lessons he is about to learn.

However, this declaration implies as well that the champion is super healthy. It is because strength is a synonym for health and vitality. First, we shouldn’t overlook that Kim Dan is also a physical therapist. Secondly, there is no ambiguity that the doctor thought this as well, because the moment he massaged his client, he kept praising him for his muscles 
(chapter 1) and his skin! 
(chapter 1) The color and texture of skin and the muscles serve as indicators to detect an illness. 
(chapter 7) Moreover the biggest proof of her cancer was the huge loss of weight! She was so thin that moving represents a huge hurdle for her. And the moment the manhwalovers compare the champion’s leg 
(chapter 7), they can grasp why Kim Dan made such a statement. For him, the athlete could only appear healthy!! His body contrasts so much to his grandma’s! Hence Joo JAekyung could only appear as the strongest man in the world. However, as you can imagine, I believe that the doctor’s judgement is wrong! I came to develop this theory while reading chapter 9. Yes, Joo Jaekyung is not healthy!! For me, he is hiding an illness. 😲
(chapter 9) He called his famous member a maniac. This idiom caught my attention, thus I started investigating what mania truly is. 
(chapter 5) On the other hand, the protagonist showed huge mood swings, from extreme euphoria to anger or the reverse. But what are the symptoms for mania? 
(chapter 4) This scene revealed that the top didn’t sleep much. Furthermore, pay attention to his eyes. Mingwa drew him with small dark circles 
(chapter 7) and some redness around the eyes. 
(chapter 9) As you can see, I am suspecting that Joo Jaekyung is somehow suffering from insomnia. He should sleep much more, especially if he has a fight the next day. Finally, he has already become obsessed with the physical therapist. But what are the causes of mania?
(chapter 7) Observe that when Kim Dan was praising the sportsman for his talents and as such his strength, one boxer was walking in his direction. The latter was actually injured, but no one had noticed it. The fighter had been dismissing it, thus his injury was not treated properly. Simultaneously, the doctor was criticizing the champion for his personality. So in this single panel, we have an undetected wound and as such illness combined with the champion’s mental health. And now, you comprehend why I could only come to the deduction that Joo Jaekyung was not healthy in the end. But so far, it was blamed on his personality. Finally, observe that the champion is the only one who rejects alcohol!! 
(chapter 9) In South Korea, this is very unusual due to History of Korean drinking culture. Alcohol serves to create connections and reinforce relationships. So rejecting to participate in such events indicate avoidance to drink alcohol. The only explanation is that the person has some health issues. Finally, Joo Jaekyung’s reaction to Kim Dan’s drunkenness exposed his true thoughts: 
(chapter 9) If he drinks, he wouldn’t be able to control himself. His irritability could come to the surface. And the moment I realized that Joo Jaekyung was sick, I had this thought: What if he has been suffering from the consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)? Let’s not forget that he is a boxer!! And the cauliflower ears are the evidences that he was hurt in the past. 
(chapter 1) Finally, he even admitted to the main lead that he received blows to his head

(chapter 5) Besides, I also found out that insomnia can also be a consequence of TBI. 
(chapter 9) He could have visited the hospital. But he doesn’t necessarily need to be suffering from CTE, one TBI is already enough to have life long consequences, like I pointed out above. Since such an injury affect the person’s personality, this means that they become more violent, reckless and tend to use drugs. Therefore there is a high risk that such a person dies young. 
(chapter 1), but also acceptance. They would close an eye to his “strange and aggressive” behavior due to his special status. Under this new light, his past behavior appears in a different light. He is not the strongest man in the world. His money, his muscles and fame were just masking his true condition, he is in pain. Thus he has such an expression in this image. 
(chapter 1) He lost a part of himself in the end. This is the result of his past injuries, but since Joo Jaekyung is moving around and is able to fight, anyone thinks that he has already recovered. But I don’t think that’s the case. Like pointed out above, the consequences of TBI are long lasting. Since Kim Dan knows about his halmoni’s sickness, I am assuming that it is the opposite for Joo Jaekyung. And as his physician, it is his role to discover it, because Joo Jaekyung is no longer close to his family. 
(chapter 9) Here, he might look handsome, but what about his brain? It got definitely bruised and wounded. His lack of empathy and his projections onto Kim Dan are in my eyes the results of his past injuries as a boxer. Finally, since the halmoni is suffering from cancer, I come to the deduction that the champion’s illness is more mental. This is definitely much harder to discover. And since I am assuming that Joo Jaekyung has a family, but he is not in contact with them, it is up to Kim Dan to recognize the situation. Since he is a man full of empathy, he will be able to understand Joo Jaekyung and have a different attitude than in this scene. 
, (chapter 2) the other sleeps in one room apartment in a small house. 
(chapter 5) 
(chapter 9), the other uses public transportation. 
(chapter 1) As a conclusion, one character embodies wealth, while the other stands for poverty. 
(chapter 1)

(chapter 9) Their position was reflecting not only their respective social status, but also the social gap, as they were not standing side by side. Since the champion belongs to the high society, Kim Dan had to look up at the celebrity initially. This was not just a question of height. Striking is that in the first two pictures, the protagonists were facing each other at a certain distance, they had nothing linking them together, indicating that the two main leads were living in two different worlds. However, there was a first change, when Kim Dan 
(chapter 2) grabbed the champion’s robe. Striking is that he barely held the cloth, as if he didn’t dare to touch the jacket. He was looking down, a sign of humbleness and resignation. I would even add, his attitude reminded the viewers more of a beggar, pleading for leniency and generosity. This panel truly displayed the power relationship between Kim Dan and Joo Jaekyung. Money was in the center of this couple and this is what brought them together initially! The poor needs the assistance of the rich. On the other hand, this gesture also announced a change. For the first time, Kim Dan was not only interacting with someone belonging to the top, but also was relying on someone else. Yet, this was more prostitution than work in the beginning, until Joo Jaekyung revealed his dependency on Kim Dan through the missed calls and the job offer. That’s the reason why the physical therapist was no longer imploring the champion, but now making requests. 
(chapter 6) Hence the main lead was positioned much lower than the doctor first.
(chapter 9) It even looks like manager Park Namwook was also recording this event. Striking is that for the first time, both main leads are interacting together in front of others. The drink is supposed to bring Kim Dan closer to the team and as such closer to Joo Jaekyung, which indeed happens afterwards. The latter is forced to enter Kim Dan’s world, and discover a new face of reality. 
(chapter 9)
(chapter 9) is a metaphor for the future link between the two protagonists. The doctor is there to help the athlete to win competitions, or like I had mentioned before, he is his reward and prize for his long and painful career. I would even add,, they will bond through sport, just like it occurred in the shower room. 
(chapter 9) This is important, because the doctor has truly earned the respect from Black Team, he is definitely accepted as one of them. Thus from that moment on, neither money nor the contract can have an influence on the relationship between the physician and the fighters. Observe that they keep calling him “doc”, which shows that they respect him not only due to his seniority but also due to his education. He studied hard to become a physical therapist. Hence Oh Daehyung refuses that Kim Dan acts as a servant, it is not his role and place to fetch ice cream for the boxers. 
(chapter 9) He is no errand boy. They don’t judge him based on his social class, but on his college degree. As you can see, sport is a place that can bring people from different social classes together. This explicates why we have famous sport events like Olympic games or World cups. Here, people from different countries are competing against each other, but it is the same principle. These events were created to generate friendship and avoid military conflicts. In tournaments, talents matter more than money and social status, though this statement has to be relativized, for “poorer countries” offer less chances to develop talented sportsmen. Hence some athletes decide to change their citizenship. Nevertheless, we can definitely state that sport generates bonds among the different social classes and as such serve to reduce the gap between the top and bottom. 
(chapter 6) Secondly, there was no one by his side except his hyung, Park Namwook, when he won his fight. 
(chapter 5) Finally, this theory got reinforced, when I saw this panel. 
. (chapter 9) We could also say that it was his karma, for abandoning him before in the shower. Because the main lead had to bring the doctor home, he discovered a new world which left him speechless. 
(chapter 7) For them, Kim Dan became a hot topic among the staff (def. 4). 
(chapter 7) Then they recognized his skills immediately (“He’s a totally different weight class. Definitely won’t be easy”). Hence I deduce that Black Team will play an important role in the therapist’s life, for he will get friends there. That’s how I realized why the author chose to contrast the pervert director to Joo Jaekyung in the end. 
(chapter 1) The latter used his position to isolate the main lead and put the blame on him. As you can imagine, I am expecting the opposite in Black Team. If something happens, they will side with Kim Dan, because the latter treated them well contrary to the champion. 
(chapter 1) Though his contract is stipulating that he just needs to treat the champion
(chapter 7), he acted differently, as he treated the other boxers. He was selfless, and the other hot boys could witness it. In their eyes, Kim Dan is definitely a hot boy (def. 4.-5-9)!

The champion came to take this expression literally, hence he shows a certain arrogance which is not the case for the coach. Nevertheless, the athlete respects the coach. The former never retaliated, when the hyung scolded him after smacking his back. 
(chapter 7) This displays that the coach can control the famous sportsman. However, the latter refused to callhis therapist hyung. But why? It is because from now on, Joo Jaehyung is no longer the senior/sunbae among the fighters in the club! He lost his privileged position as “hyung” to Kim Dan. Pay attention to the way his colleague called him: “hyung”
(chapter 7) This means that he has to call Kim Dan hyung like the other fighters now. And now, you comprehend his reluctance to address Kim Dan properly. 
(chapter 7) It was, as if he didn’t want to lose his title “hyung” to the physical therapist. And this leads me to the following observation: Kim Dan became the hot topic between the protagonist and the coach (def. 3). And it is only a question of time, until hyung discovers the existence of the deal between the two protagonists. He is focusing too much on career and work that he is overlooking to enjoy the moment. The person is not able to play and to take time to laugh along the way. In the end, he doesn’t know what truly matters in life.
Nevertheless, the fighter is totally wrong in that aspect. It takes a lot of courage to admit a mistake and to ask for forgiveness 
(doctor Frost, chapter 211), because we don’t know if the offended person will accept the excuse. 
And this is exactly what happened with Kim Dan. He apologized, yet he still feared that he would be hit. 
and apologized before before becoming silent and inactive. Hence I believe that this is what the uke will teach the strongest man in the world. He needs to learn to admit his mistakes. And this is no coincidence that in the ring, the brutal man never voiced regret towards the “green” man. With his expression “punk”, he had the perfect excuse to avoid the apology. That’s why he didn’t reply to the trainer immediately and in front of him 
(chapter 1) It is because they had all heard about the boxer’s violent behavior and his stubbornness:

It is about power struggle and victory. This observation leads me to the following conclusion: Joo Jaekyung’s rough sex is just the consequence of his “mentality”. In truth, he is masking his own anxieties, his manhood. This is just a speculation on my part, but I have the impression that his overactive superego is his way to deal his own sexual orientation. Homosexuality is often perceived as a lack of masculinity and strength, and note that so far, the boxer has been following social norms quite strictly. He embodies the prototype of the successful and wealthy boxer. We definitely need more information about his past, his family and surroundings. Another possibility is that the athlete is bothered by his huge phallus, which he could view as “jinx”…. For him, it is the reason why his former sex partners keep running away. The author will give us more elements in the future episodes.
and contrary to the others, he will keep having sex with the protagonist. 😂 Under this aspect, the readers can grasp why the anonymous sex partner said nothing, when Joo Jaekyung called the main lead. 
I am suspecting that the man didn’t find this sex session very pleasant, as he was clinching onto the sheets. Besides, why would he call him in the middle of the encounter? And he could see Kim Dan as his savior… it was his luck that Joo Jaekyung had a new physical therapist. 
Even the author Black Apricot from Legs That Won’t Walk couldn’t help herself to praise the main lead for his handsomeness on Twitter. Striking is that this picture represents the perspective from Kim Dan, the other protagonist. In other words, not only the readers were enchanted, but also Kim Dan. He couldn’t restrain himself from voicing his fascination by whispering “WOW”. The gentle and pure man was voicing what the readers felt. While massaging him, he kept starring at him, complimenting for his skin, his muscles and even his visage. He had the impression that he was really lucky, for he never had such a client before. 
It was, as if he was claiming the main lead. He was his reward and trophy. And now, pay attention to the clothes the bottom was wearing, when he met his client. 
I am inclined to think that the boxer won’t view the physical therapist as a jinx. For him, he will be his lucky charm. And this is already detectable in chapter 1. 
(chapter 55) He doesn’t want to be recognized, but more importantly he is determined to hide his true feelings from Nam Dong-Gyun, for he believes that he has no chance to be his lover again. Moreover, during the Corona pandemic, people are requested to wear a mask in order to stop the contamination.
If people knew that he was a psychopath, he would get isolated. His parents are already very distant with him, for they view him as a monster. Due this experience 
(he killed a dog and his mother caught him), he got aware that he was not allowed to act on his urges. For him, the mask is a necessity, as he is living in society. He doesn’t want to end up in jail. But is it the same for Nameless from Painter Of The Night? 
(chapter 54) He is switching his identity to become a killer. In this panel, the manhwaphiles see the transformation of the figure, as his face is already half-covered. He is no longer a joker, but not the ruthless murderer yet. However, when he kills the servant, he has the cover on.
(chapter 54) By putting a mask, he is protecting himself too, for he is acting as someone else, therefore his heart can’t be wounded. 
In this case, it is more a desire, though in truth it is a combination of both. The “butcher” has to hide his true identity. So when he wears his mask in chapter 44, he is doing his job. He won’t be recognized, but also he won’t feel remorse. He has been paid for that and the mask is helping him not to get emotionally invested. On the other hand when Jihwa met him in chapter 51, the manhwalovers could perceive the low-born’s true personality which coincides with the absence of the mask.
In that episode, he was literally naked in front of the noble, which explicates why he showed concern and care for his client. He let the noble express his worries. Let’s not forget that the jester is a person with a pure heart, when he is true to himself. Hence I come to the conclusion that the mask serves as a protection for the criminal’s mind and heart. And now, you comprehend why Nameless didn’t feel remorse for hurting the painter. According to me, in this scene, it was Kim who was scaring the painter.
(chapter 66) This is important, because the mask had two purposes here: to hide the identity of the perpetrator, but also to slip into a role, No-Name’s, the assassin. The main lead’s face was covered and turned around. At no moment, the “butcher” could see the victim’s gaze and facial expressions. The mask helped him to be ruthless, while he threatened Baek Na-Kuym. He might feel pity, but that was it.
(chapter 66) In that scene, the manhwaphiles thought that they were seeing Mumyeong, hence they imagined that Jihwa’s safety meant more than the artist’s life and possible scars. But if you take my theory seriously, this was Kim, then the words from the butler had a different meaning. He was hiding his action behind the nobles. Only after paying attention to the mask, I realized the existence of two masks. 
(Chapter 61) 
(chapter 61) Smiling mask versus threatening mask. The presence of two masks explicates why No-Name had the impression that after the painter’s return nothing bad had really happened. He was not aware of the butler‘s wrongdoings. Simultaneously, since the artist had not been killed, No-Name imagined that he had done nothing wrong. 
(Chapter 61) Hence the existence of the Joker’s mask outlines the criminal’s duality. He can be a ruthless killer, yet he can be gentle and caring too. At the same time, it implies the presence of a biased view. 
(chapter 73), the moment he is deprived of his powers. It was, as if he became a human. This is particularly perceptible, when he accepts the judgement of Maat and says this. 
Striking is that in this panel, the mask doesn’t appear as a source of advantage, rather as a hindrance. He couldn’t see and hear the consequences of his crimes due to the mask. He was blind and deaf. By removing his mask, he becomes human and can face reality: he is facing his sins and the suffering of his victims, their wounded soul. 
[chapter 35], his son, his title

[chapter 35]), he lost his identity. Osiris made sure to imprison his brother, because the former was lusting after him and had the impression that the latter would always escape his control. 
(chapter 35). At the end, he raped him in order to claim him. The latter got literally destroyed, hence he hid his pain behind the mask and chose to hurt others.
(chapter 37) In other words, the loss of identity was the reason why Seth decided to hide himself under the mask. Who was he in reality? The god was so tormented by his tragic past, Osiris had hurt him with his actions and words. He made sure that his brother would doubt himself. Hence the mask became the only reason to keep living. This item helped him to hide his wounds, but also not to lose himself completely. Hence I conclude that the “evil god” wasn’t just blinded by his heartache, but also by his mask, for the latter hindered him to see the real impact of his terrible actions. 
(chapter 37) 
(chapter 73), his son makes the opposite experience. He transforms himself into a god, Anubis, hence he gets a mask. 
(chapter 73) However, this signifies that he won’t see his wrongdoings too, he will be oblivious to the pain he is causing to others. This time, his blindness will be caused by his resent. While in the past, Anubis was a sensitive and gentle person, but no real god due to Seth’s curse, in chapter 73 he becomes Osiris’ true son, an evil god. Why do I judge him like that? It’s related to Osiris’ words. The latter is encouraging his son to feel hatred for the one responsible for his curse, Seth. Moreover, he asked his son to forget his past signifying that he should cut ties with his previous family. Therefore I believe that in the future, Anubis will fight against Seth and even Horus. Nevertheless, the wounded Anubis doesn’t realize that he has been manipulated by Osiris. The latter used his vulnerability and fear to approach him and appear as his savior. 
(chapter 73) Besides, Osiris was in fact accountable for his injury 
(chapter 37) In other words, the god of the afterlife used a disguise, though his brother had the impression that Osiris was real. Yet, one might argue that in that scene, Osiris was not wearing a mask. However, since he took possession of Anubis’ body, we can clearly see the presence of a cover. Let’s not forget that this terrible god is not allowed to leave the Underworld, hence he needs a subterfuge to enter the world of the living. That’s why I perceive it as a disguise. While the Egyptian god used Anubis as his vessel, Kwon Sungha from Dine With A Vampire took a new identity: he became Sooin’s bodyguard. 
As you can see, in both cases magic provided the villains a new occasion to deceive their target. And this shows that a mask can eventually cover a whole body, when it is to create a new “identity”. 
, just like Ra or Hathor. Yet, note that they are all women. Secondly, if you pay attention to their appearances, you’ll detect the presence of a hair dress and make up, especially around the eyes. This is no coincidence in my opinion. These accessories should be perceived as a “mask”. The make-up and hair dress are a form of disguise. This becomes really obvious in the manhwa “True beauty” from Yaongyi, where the heroine Jugyeong Lim hides her insecurities and true self behind a make-up. This is the real and natural protagonist 
(chapter 7), while we have here the disguised heroine
(chapter 0). This goes to the point that her boyfriend Sujeon Han has no idea how she really looks like. As a conclusion, the make-up and hair dress should be judged as a mask too. That’s why in traditional Chinese theater, the actors have painted faces. It was, as if they were wearing a mask.
(Doctor Frost, chapter 2) That’s the reason why the author Black Apricot didn’t drew a mouth, when she presented Song Ji-Sung here.
(chapter 9). She wanted her readers and the main lead to realize the character’s true personality. The latter was upset, because Kwon Soo-Young was keeping his distance from him and it looked like, he had found a new protector/boyfriend. When the protagonist Kwon Soo-Young had met Song Ji-Sung for the first time, he had only paid attention to his smile. Therefore he had misjudged his personality. And now, if you contrast the previous panel with the following one
(chapter 16), you’ll notice an important detail: The eyes are closed, when the character is smiling. In this situation, the figure was actually hiding his true thoughts, this explains why the main lead couldn’t correct his false impression about his future lover. He had no idea about his true nature, as the latter keeping concealing his true intentions, he was faking his emotions with his facial expressions. This confirms my interpretation: the face can also be a mask. For me, this character is like Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In this picture, Kwon Soo-Young got scared, when he saw this gaze and refused his lover’s advances. 
He is brutal, selfish and very manipulative. And now, you understand why in ENNEAD we had two different kind of masks: Seth and Horus are wearing real masks, while Osiris and Isis use their own face and make-up to conceal their true personality. 
(chapter 7) Sure, the color refers to his death, a decayed body, nonetheless the readers should judge the painting as a cover. Since he is using a whole body to disguise himself, this signifies that he is hiding his true personality and thoughts more than Isis or Ra. That’s why it is not surprising that this god is particularly scheming and deceptive. 
The hair fringe and the shadow serve as a mask. In this scene, she used her body to divert her lover’s attention and hide her true intentions. She was inciting Do Seong-Rok to kill on her behalf. However, this temptation left such a deep impression that the main lead was tormented in his sleep later. His unconscious was telling him that he had been manipulated. As you can see, the absence of eyes in the manhwa can be viewed as the presence of a mask and as such a sign of deception. We have another example in BJ Alex: 
(chapter 10) The mask is a combination of shadow and absence of eyes. Here, Ahn Jiwon was remembering his first love and boyfriend, who faked affection and care for him. As a conclusion, the eyes symbolize honesty and naturality and its absence the presence of a mask. 
and the internist Kwon Sungha
. While examining their characters, I made a connection between the glasses and their personality. I defined the function of the glasses as a mask, because both almost act the same, as vicious hypocrites. They hide behind their glasses and their fake smiles so that people misjudge them. And remember doctor Frost’s advice: 
Observe that the smile is less pronounced, giving the impression that it is vanishing. Simultaneously, the eyes are shown oozing a rather cold and heartless side. In the scene at the library (chapter 40), he’s finally able to perceive his own reflection in the scholar’s gaze, since the smile has totally disappeared. The gaze exudes coldness, despise and filth.
Combined with the harsh words “you were born to be a prostitute”, the painter’s identity and personality are literally destroyed. The scholar has reduced Baek Na-Kyum to a prostitute, the lowest rank among the commoner. They have no rights and no real identity as they are forced to do what their clients want. 
(chapter 41) Hence it is not surprising that the protagonist remembers the cold gaze. His eyes were the other reason why Baek Na-Kyum’s heart was so wounded. He could sense despise and rejection. In other words, the scholar had used two weapons to hurt the main character: the gaze and the words. This connection between the smile and the eyes is visible in Dine With A Vampire too.
As soon as the smile vanishes, the eyes become visible unveiling their true personality. That’s why it is not surprising that Kwon Sungha has the same behavior towards the main lead Joo Sooin. The former has also destroyed the protagonist and reduced him to a puppet. The villains keeps calling him a pervert. He was even worse than Jung In-Hun in the sense that he kept abusing him mentally and physically after the coercive persuasion. Both are hypocrites hiding behind their glasses and their gaze. Therefore they are portrayed as cruel and mean hypocrites. The other common denominator is their hatred and rejection for homosexuality. Kwon Sungha seems to be even worse than the scholar, as he is in reality a repressed homosexual. He has sex with Joo Sooin, but resents him because he sees in him the reason for his “perverted” sexuality. He rejects sodomy because of the Church and his mother. Both reject this sexual orientation. I could mention Carter Nathan from The Blood of Madam Giselle

(chapter 13) or Jung from Unintentional Love Story 
as well as selfish and ruthless hypocrites. In other words, the next time you read a manhwa, be careful with characters wearing glasses, they might be dangerous and their smile might be fake. 
(chapter 16) The main lead explains that he chose to wear glasses, because he desired to avoid rejection and fear. He had noticed that the absence of facial expressions (smile) and his cold gaze would be misjudged by people. Here, Matthew used the glasses as protection. And this illustration reinforces my interpretation: glasses in manhwas have a huge importance in the end, they should be considered as masks too. 
The latter is the only one who can control him. 
(chapter 1) This is his second identity: BJ Alex. On the one hand, he desires to remain anonymous so that no one can recognize him in real life, on the other hand this signifies that he is living a double life. He would like to protect his privacy, but also his secret life as homosexual. That’s why he said this, when his relationship with Nam Dong-Gyun was revealed: 
As you can observe, a name and as such notoriety can also serve as a mask. The president of the council was admired by his peers, he was so perfect that some students even wondered, if he was human.
and the president is not recognizing it. But why is reputation a mask? It is, because people often judge others on hearsay and first impressions. The social medias are the perfect example for superficial and quick judgement. But we have to question ourselves about Ahn Jiwon’s initial motivations to hide behind a good notoriety. 
In the beginning of the story, he doesn’t even know the other protagonist very well, yet he is willing to take care of him, when the latter is drunk. The president is seen constantly smiling and has never externalized negative emotions (anger, violence…). This explicates why the uke was so shocked and confused, when he saw a brutal BJ Alex. The latter had discovered his secret, hence the former felt vulnerable. On the other hand, Nam Dong-Gyun wondered about Ahn Jiwon’s true personality. But the uke was not the only one who had no idea about Ahn Jiwon’s true character. The latter was also confused. 
This signifies that the protagonist was never confronted with his own reflection. 
(Doctor Frost, chapter 11). That’s why he became an empty man in the end. He has no idea about his true self (his likes and dislikes). He was forced to follow his parents’ requests and his brother’s shadow. This emptiness is palpable in chapter 49, when the main lead confesses this: 
(chapter 1)
(chapter 49) Since the adults kept criticizing him, he imagined that if he copied his brother, he would get recognition and acceptance. In other words, he forced himself to become a second version of his brother. 
But even copying his hair dress and tastes, he was doomed to failure, for the parents had already categorized him: he would always be inferior to their eldest son. He realized gradually that this wasn’t right, for his parents still didn’t perceive his true identity. That’s why he feels drowning, when he loses his mask. 
He doesn’t have the impression to exist.
(chapter 49) That’s why he chose a third mask: he tried to be admired at school. He was caring and considerate towards his fellows. However, since he had made this rational decision
, in his mind he was acting. Hence he didn’t truly enjoy this situation. 
(chapter 49) He felt that he was forced to smile. Besides, I believe as he was fake, this admiration was quite superficial in his mind. Therefore he didn’t feel truly loved. That’s why at some point, he wondered if he would ever be loved… 
However, the readers should interpret this question differently: he was asking indirectly, when his true self would be recognized by someone. And the one who made him discover his true sexual orientation was unfortunately a player. That’s why the main lead was so devastated and hurt, when he discovered that his relationship was based on deception and fakeness. So after being sent to the army, Ahn Jiwon chose to act like in the past. He became a role model as a student, yet he could no longer hide his homosexuality. Hence he led a double life. 
(chapter 08) In this scene, the charater is disguising his true thoughts. The black and red are representing his emotions: he is irritated, because he needs to have sex with Nam Dong-Gyun. Note how Ahn Jiwon is avoiding his counterpart’s gaze. The figure is acting, his mask is his face and the presence of the colors symbolizes the repressed and hidden thoughts and emotions. Mingwa colored one picture in chapter 51 marking a turning point in the protagonist’s life.
For the first time, he was acknowledging his feelings and as such his own desires. This picture represents the removal of one mask. He is slowly living for real, but in this chapter he still hadn’t found his true personality. The other mask (his reputation as good student) was still existent. Besides, he still believed that his smiling and caring attitude were just an act, while in truth he was genuine and caring. But due to his past, he had already internalized that this was just an act. And now, you comprehend why the latest episodes from BJ Alex are in color. The main lead had finally found his own identity and place. 
(Painter Of The Night, chapter 54), colors, reputation, etc. The protagonists are often hiding their true thoughts and emotions due to their past, while the villains are using masks to deceive people.
